Although most girls choose the prom dress that looks the best on them, there are others who like to stick the recent trends, which are often inspired by celebrities. If you have a daughter that will be attending prom during 2008, there is a good chance that she may be wondering what the prom dress trends for this season are. Since it is best to start looking for prom dresses early on in the season, now is the best time for you to learn what the prom dress trends for 2008 are. Here, we will take a much closer look at what some of the style characteristics are for prom dresses this year.

Prom Dress Trends for 2008 - Long, Flowing Dresses

Last prom season, most of the prom dresses on the racks were short and cocktail-party styled. The prom season before that, most of the prom dresses were long and princess styled, or in other words, very "poofy." This prom season, princess and cocktail styled dresses will be replaced by a lot of long, flowing dresses. These prom dresses will conform to the body and, for the most part, are prom dresses that look the best on tall, thin girls who have long legs.

Prom Dress Trends for 2008 - Strapless and Halter

Prom dresses which are strapless and halter will both be trendy during prom season 2008. When straps are included on prom dresses, it will be much more fashionable for them to be chunkier straps, as thin spaghetti strapped dresses are not going to be "in" for the proms this year. Strapless and halter tops tend to look great on a wide variety of body shapes, but if you do decide that you want to cover up, you may want to opt for a see-through shawl, as these are what we will be seeing a lot of for this year's prom.

Prom Dress Trends for 2008 - Metallic Colors

Metallic colored prom dresses will be making their way onto the dance floor this prom season. Colors such as silver and gold are what you will be seeing the most of as far as metallic colors go, though don't be surprised if you see others. The best thing about this trend is that you will be bound to find shoes, handbags and other accessories that will match your dress perfectly if you are opt for gold or silver.

Prom Dress Trends for 2008 - Hot Colors

Aside from metallic colors, there will also be a lot of hot colors seen this prom season. During prom seasons 2006 and 2007, some of the most common colors were whites, blacks and browns. This season there will be a lot of pinks, oranges, reds, purples and lime greens. This is good news for anyone who loves these colors. If you want to wear something like this, you may want to consider using a fake tanner, as hot colors tend to look excellent on tanner skin.

Prom Trends for 2008 - Intricate Detail

Intricate detail can be found on a prom dress in a number of ways - and will all be a major part of prom dresses during 2008. Sequins, in particular, are going to be very stylish. You will be likely to find them on metallic colored prom dresses. Beads, sparkles and flowers will also play a major role in the 2008 prom season.

Prom Trends for 2008 - Shoes

During prom season 2008, you will probably be able to get away with whatever type of shoes you want, as long as there is a certain degree of heal to them. If you are planning on wearing a shorter dress, however, you may want to consider wearing flat shoes. Flat shoes are offered in a wide variety of colors, which range from metallic colors to glittery designs. As far as regular shoes go, you may want to opt for something flowery.

Prom Trends for 2008 - Natural Hairstyles

One of the interesting trends for prom season 2008 is the fact that hairstyles are going to be very natural. Curly half-up hairstyles are going to be the trend this prom season. If you really want to do add a special touch, consider adding a flower that is the same color as your dress. Of course, this does not mean that you won't be seeing updos this prom season either. Updos during prom season will also be very trendy, no matter how natural or elegant in appearance they may be.

As with any other type of situation, the most important thing is to not allow yourself to become a fashion slave. Although you may want to follow some of the prom trends during 2008, the best thing that you can do is choose a prom dress that you not only like, but that you will also feel comfortable in. Allowing yourself to act as an individual, while following some of the prom trends, is really the best way to go!

I'm back to teaching high school after many years, so I'm interested in the prom trends for the girls. Long, flowing dresses and natural hair . . . love it! (I wasn't crazy about the short, cocktail dresses that were better suited to a girl in her 20's. The 2008 trends sound more special). This is an excellent article!
