Prom (Two Date Minimum)

Prom 1989'

RANDY SHARPE
1989! A great year. People partied in peace. Old School "House Music", Intelligent Rap/Hip-Hoop music that had a message. But most importantly, the year I graduated from" South Shore High School" and "Senior Prom". The end of a decade, "the 80s". This is one of my most favorite memories. I was a "jock" with a 3.8 GPA, had some good friends, was well known and respected amongst my peers, faculty and staff. But that did not keep me from not having a date for Prom. At a time of the year when the whole school was buzzing with with anxious preparation for this day that took four years to get here! Young ladies in a frenzy to get a unique dress that no one else would be seen in. The guys trying to rent the hottest ride for the evening and trying to figure out ways to get those same young ladies out of those unique dresses by the end of the night (laugh and agree here).

As I stated earlier. I did not have a date. At the present time I was not dating anyone and all the girls that I would've consider asking were already taken. Hey! But me being me, that little obstacle did not deter me in the slightest. Although I did not know what color I was going to wear I made preparations anyway. Rented the Newly manufactured 1989' Ford Probe, Got my jewelry together and hit the kin folk up for a lot of cash. But wait? My sister who was a year ahead of me informs me that one of close friends who missed their Prom wants to know if she can be my date? "HUH"? I knew her well and we kinda liked each other, plus she was a looker so my response was. "Hell Yea!" A week before Prom. Man What luck. Oh! But wait? I get to school the next day and a good friend of mine whom I ate lunch with everyday tells me she doesn't have a date either. I said "HUH?" This girl was one the most attractive and popular girls in school. She then asked me. "Do you have a date yet Randy?" "Boy I had to really think about this one!" Eventually me being the honest guy I am said. "Yes. My sisters friend offered to go with me". She then asked. " What colors are y'all wearing?" I Had decided on Red and White. She then says. "Me Too." Omen? " Do you think she would mind if we me and you took Prom pictures together?" I said. "She is just my sisters friend it's cool."

Fast Forward. Prom Night. Palmer House, Downtown Chicago. Beautiful! I have already picked up my sisters friend she is gorgeous. We enter, my friend from school arrives at the same time and says. " Unh-UN! You not walking in there with out me Mr. Sharpe." As we entered the door-person gave the intros. Needless to say every head in place turned. Long story short my rep. got a big boost that night. Neither left me alone all night we all three danced together even on the slow songs, ate together it was like we were a three headed Phenomenon. I was......."The Man!" As for the rest of the night. I'm a gentleman. I don't kiss and tell.

And that's how I wound up with two dates for my Senior Prom of 1989. Good Times, Good Times, Goooood Times!
:-) :-)
