Promises that Are True

"Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler." Psalm 91:3&4 (NKJV)

This verse is a good summary of why I decided to write a daily devotional. I am not a theologian, so forgive me if sometimes I relate these verses in ways that are how I personally view them.

With this promise that God has given to us I see the "snare of the fowler and the perilous pestilence" as a general term relating to out trials and tribulations whatever they may be. The world we live in is often hostile. There are sicknesses, financial struggles, emotional trials, and many other snares we could fall into.

However, God promises to cover us and provide a place of refuge. He doesn't always make the "pestilences" disappear instantly; sometimes He merely provides a place of refuge. A place were we can find rest from our burdens and relief from life's difficulties.

I especially love the last line of this section. "His truth shall be your shield and buckler." Shield and buckler are weapons of protection. They guard us from the enemy's assaults. God's word tells us "His truth" is our shield. This is precisely why I began to write a daily devotional. I know the importance of getting "His truth" into my life. His truth guards and protects us from the attacks of the enemy; His truth reminds us of who we are in Him, and what He has done for us.

Read God's word; listen to His truths, and let Him guard you! We need these weapons to protects us from the world, the flesh, and the devil. His word is true!
