Proper Preventative Maintenance on Your Car During the Winter Months

Cassandra Molinar
The winter months can prove to be very tough on your car and the major components that your car needs to run and function well. The most important thing to remember is that your car is more then a hunk of metal that you simply fill with gas jump in and drive away. The single most important component of you car is the engine's internal components. The cam shaft, pistons, piston rings, and the engine core.

The only way to make sure that your car can survive the winter cold is to keep watch on your cars lubrication. Check your oil and get the proper weight of oil. To verify the weight of oil that you need for your car check your owner's manual and the specification will be located in the manual. The second thing to keep in mind for a happy car is to make sure that you have the proper mixture of water and anti-freeze the proper mixture is a 50-50 mixture of water and anti-freeze. This will ensure that your car will not of heat and that the proper heat level will stay where it should be.

These two things are the most important to keep in mind. The over aspects of your car are your tires. Your tires are important because they are what keep you on the road. So you want to make sure that you have the proper inflation in your tires. To check the proper amount of air that you need all you have to do is read the description that is located on the wall of the tires. Then you remove the small cap that is on the valve stem and check the amount of air in the tire with a tire air pressure gauge. Then add or remove air till you are within limits that you read from your tire. In the mornings before you go to work or start your early morning errands take five to ten minutes to warm your cars engine.

Doing this will allow your engine to warm and to circulate the oil to properly lubricated your engine to ensure that excessive ware is not a factor to the health of your car. On a side note make sure then before you start your car on those cold mornings please take the time to check in the engine compartment. There have been several cases when the neighbor hood cat has crawled into the engine compartment to hide from the cold. The poor cat was warm till the owner of the car started the car to get ready for work and the engine compartment made a funny sound and fur was everywhere, so please for all the poor cats out there pop the hood and check for any small furry visitors hiding in there.
