What makes matters worse, for some residents, is that the Royal Oak City Council is looking in to new high-tech meters that would accepted credit cards, and even cell phone payments. The plan to raise the price of parking in the city is expected to raise $100,000 - $150,000 annually, but where does that leave the price of the new meters?
One resident put it this way, "They are talking about raising more money by raising the parking fees. Isn't that money going to be wiped out by the cost of the meters that they are looking at?" Another resident stated, "If they are going to try to raise money, the City Council should know not to spend more money to get it. That just does not make a bit of sense."
While the plan has been tabled for the time being, there are many that believe that the rate increases will happen within the next year. It will be interesting to see where they are able to get the money for the new meters if the Royal Oak City Council decides to move forward with that part of the plan.
