Pros and Cons of Helium Writing Contests

Mutha
Helium has writing contests for ten titles each week and each contest lasts two weeks. The writing contests on Helium are a great way to make some extra money (if you win). However, there are some pros and cons that should be considered before you decide to participate in Helium's writing contests.

Competition
Pros - The competition on Helium provides a little motivation to to keep writing and continue to improve on your articles. This is especially true with the writing contests. The payout to the winners of the contest draws much competition from the best writers on Helium. Titles that might not have many articles otherwise, accumulate many articles and get a lot of attention. This will allow you to see how you measure up against the best writers on Helium.

Cons - Being in competition with the articles from some of the best writers on Helium, your average ranking may suffer. If you do not have many articles on Helium, this can drastically drop your overall ranking. This can be especially harmful to your upfront payments. Upfront payments are based on writing stars. Writing stars are based on you ranking and how many articles you have produced. If your ranking drops, particularly at the end of the month, this can cause you to earn less from the upfront payments.

The Money
Pros - Helium writing contests draw much attention from the Helium community. Often times writers will read the other articles from a title group before they write an article. This will cause your performance payments to increase. You also have the opportunity to win up to $60 if you place in the top 3 for the contest. The articles you write will also be eligible for upfront payments if you meet all of the necessary criteria.

Cons -
If your ratings suffer as a result in competing in the writing contests on Helium, you may lose upfront payments. It can be difficult to win a Helium writing contest because you are competing against many experienced writers.

Helium writing contests are fun and competitive. To get the most out of the writing contests you may want to wait until you have several articles published. This will allow you to experience the rise and fall of ratings and get used to the Helium community. Having many articles produced will also lessen the affect of your contest articles' ratings on your overall rating.
