When I first saw it, I knew I was in love. The Keurig Coffee Maker was just what I had been looking for. Gourmet coffee served one cup at a time. For someone that doesn't drink much coffee, it seemed like a great buy. However, I quickly found that it had its ups and downs. While the Keurig Coffee Maker may seem like a perfect fit, there are a few things you should know. Here are just a few of the pros and cons of the Keurig Coffee Maker.
Expensive
First things first, the Keurig Coffee Maker is an expensive appliance ranging in price from $99 for the mini to $189 for the platinum plus model. There are a number of single-cup coffee makers on the market that can be purchased for well below that price. In fact, I currently own a Black and Decker Single-Cup Coffee Maker that costs around $15. Regardless, let's say you want the machine anyway. You should also be aware that the coffee is also expensive. A pack of 50 K-Cups will set you back around $30 or $0.60 per cup.
Flexible
While the K-Cups may be expensive, you can purchase a reusable K-Cup so that you can fill the machine with your own coffee for a much more affordable price. Reusable K-Cups can be purchased for less than $20. Another way the machine is flexible is that you can make coffee, hot chocolate, tea and even apple cider in the machine. This allows for the entire household to enjoy the Keurig.
Bulky
Keurig Coffee Makers are extremely bulky. Before selling mine, I was constantly looking at it thinking that it took up way too much room on the counter. To prepare a single-cup it's funny that it takes up more space than a traditional coffee maker. However, the machine does house a water reservoir to prevent the need to add water as often. Still, this baby takes up a lot of valuable counter space.
Fun
Okay, I have to admit that the Keurig is a fun machine to have around. It's nice to be able to grab a different flavor of coffee each morning or a cup of hot chocolate at night. It's also great for entertaining when you have several guests that each want something different.
Slow
One last qualm I have about the Keurig Coffee Maker is that it's slow. It takes 4 minutes for the machine to be ready to brew the first cup. The company states that once the brewing process is ready, it will take less time to brew additional cups. Problem? The whole point of a single-cup coffee maker is to make one cup, not additional cups. Who wants to wait 4 minutes before it even starts brewing? Traditional coffee makers start brewing immediately.
The Keurig Coffee Maker may be a good fit for you, but do consider these pros and cons carefully before investing in such an expensive appliance. Otherwise, you'll end up with an expensive paperweight that takes up way too much room.
