Either approach can work. Just do not try to do both at the same time.
You need to find what you can get most excited about, and then stick with that. For the purposes of this article, suppose you make the decision to promote your product. What should you do now? What is the best way to do that?
I would like to suggest the following as an effective example of how to lead with your product.
Focus on explaining how the features and benefits of the product will meet the specific needs of the prospect.
As your prospect likes what they hear and begins to show enthusiasm, you might offer to let them try a sample.
Do not make the mistake when promoting the product of jumping into a sales pitch on the business opportunity the moment you sense their excitement. The chance to promote the business will come later.
The exception to this rule would be if they interrupt you and say, "Man, I bet I could make a fortune selling this stuff! Would the owners let me sell this just like you do?" A comment like this would be an obvious hint that you need to focus your conversation onto signing them up in your business.
If they do not mention wanting to make money or anything similar to that, just keep it simple and stick with the product for now. You will only confuse someone and make them feel uncomfortable and possibly lose a sale if you try to explain the money side of the business right now.
The time to speak with this prospect about the income opportunity would be after they have been taking the product for one to three months.
You should make contact with them and see what they like most about the product. If they are enthusiastic about their positive results, ask them for a testimonial. Ask them if they know of anyone that would like to experience similar results.
Make contact with the referral they gave you and do what you do best. However, before placing the order, get back in touch with the original customer and share the good news. Tell them that you had a few ideas of how you would like to thank them for the referral.
Tell them that you were thinking of getting them a gift card, or were wondering if they would prefer cash. Before they can react to your statement, jump in and say, "Actually, there is a way that we could set this up to where you get paid the commission automatically every month."
You can then explain the business.
The timing on this is perfect now because they will see that they already succeeded in the business before they even join.
