Protect Against Superbugs Naturally With These 5 Proven Methods

Georgia Lund

Tough, antibiotic resistant bacteria and viruses are called "superbugs," and they are more prevalent in our society than they were just 10 years ago. Protect yourself against these strong and stubborn superbugs naturally with these five proven methods.

Strengthen Your Defenses with Vitamin D

1,000 IU daily of vitamin D has been proven to naturally protect the body against one of the worst superbugs, MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus). Vitamin D switches on a gene that floods the body with more than 200 natural antibiotic compounds, compounds which take MRSA down before the super bug can take you down.

Eat Less Sugar

Do not completely eliminate sugar, just eat less, which is a very easy and natural method for protecting against superbugs. Ingested sugar weakens the immune system by causing the blood glucose level to fluctuate wildly, which in turn damages the body's immune cells. Just one sugar-laden can of soda can weaken your immune system by almost half for five hours. Eliminating just one soda (or other sugary beverage or food) a day protects against superbugs.

Take a Daily Nap

Taking a daily 20-minute nap helps keep you become healthy by increasing the levels of natural antibodies in your system. Antibodies, which are large proteins that latch onto germs, make it impossible for superbugs to sneak into your system without being detected. The more natural antibodies your system has available, the less likely you will be to catch a superbug.

Use Thyme

The natural herb, thyme, will prevent superbugs from entering your system via a cut or scrape in the skin. Applying a small amount of essential oil of thyme to minor cuts and scraps kills any superbugs lurking on skin surrounding the open wound area. Full strength essential oil of thyme may be too strong for sensitive skin and can cause irritation, so mix with a couple of drops of olive oil before applying it to skin. Olive oil works to promote wound healing so superbugs will have less opportunity to invade an open wound.

Wash Hands Five Times Day

Thorough hand washing cannot be stressed enough when it comes to preventing the spread of sickness, disease and protecting against superbugs. Wash hands at least five times per day with soap and warm water for the amount of time it takes to sing the Happy Birthday song twice.
