Protect the Money You Spend to Fly

Air travel has become the ideal way for most people to travel regardless of if the travel is for business or personal reasons. Traveling through the air does come with certain problems that are avoidable if you are aware of the problems that may arise. There are ways to protect your investment in air travel that you should be aware of and here are a few for your perusal:

1. Buy your airplane tickets with a credit card if at all possible. This is not a money saving tip, but instead an investment protection tip for those who use it. When you purchase a ticket with your credit card you get certain protections that you would not have with another form of purchase. For instance, when recent bankruptcies occurred in the airline industry most customers lost their money that was already spent on travel. However, credit card users were reimbursed by their lenders.

2. When you receive your tickets for the flight make sure to proofread them for accuracy in spelling of your name, address, etcetera. If this information is wrong at the airport your only option will be to buy a new ticket with the correct information and this is a waste of time and money. Make sure that if this is the first time you have been on a plane since you married that all your information matches.

3. Try to avoid having your tickets shipped somewhere other than your home. Preferably your tickets should be shipped to a business like your travel agent or even the airline's ticket office at the airport. The "lost my ticket in the mail" excuse, even if it is the truth, will take time and likely money to correct.

4. Never stop checking the fares for the time you are leaving and the destination you are going to. The closer you get to leaving town the better the deals will get and you should take advantage of it. If the fares change you should contact the airline to see how you should go about getting the new rate.

5. Make sure that you have all the information and documentation you need to check in and board the flight. The more delays and requests you have to fulfill at the airport and in the moment the more expensive it will all become. Make sure that you have all IDs, passports and other documentation that you need, you don't want to miss your flight because you were unprepared, it will cost you money.
