Protecting Your Children on Myspace

Unknown
Protecting your children is a very difficult task. Especially when the
danger could start at home. Millions of Kids everyday use the
computer. Wheather its checking email, playing games, downloading
music or chatting with their freinds on sites such as myspace.
Because their have been so many cases where children have been sought
by sexual preditors on the web. Attorney generals are working with
myspace.com, which has over 100 million users, to help end these
incidents.

This is a very difficult task to achieve beacuse a couple reasons.
Myspace users can sign up at the youngest age of 14. There is nothin
but a working email address required to sign up. Because there is no
way to know if the person is giving the proper idenification, myspace
cannot be responsible in monitoring their account. One attorney
general suggested a small fee and credit card be required to set up am
account. This would give parents the responsibility of monitoring
their kids access to sites. Other suggestions have been social
security numbers and even drivers license number providing they raise
the sign up age to 16.

I am not sure what they intend to do about his but I will tell you
they want to do it fast. One of the attorney generals said they one
year for an improvement or they will have to take additional measures
to ensure the safety of our children.
