There are ways to prevent most situations and one that I now practice that is very important is setting passwords for access. Without having passwords set, anyone who uses your computer can access whatever you have on auto login. Always log off AC when you are not attending your computer.
It is hard to stay updated with the latest protection when using the computer. When other users have access to your files and programs, there is a strong possibility that they will tamper with something. When a young relative asks for some money, for future reference don't tell them to write an article and you will cash them out because there is also a strong possibility that what they post was posted or copied from somewhere else.
Setting your access ability to administrator also helps to protect you from the unwanted user. We see it happen every day on the news and in the newspapers, Identity theft is high. Hackers are easily accessing credit card numbers as well as other info. As easy as it seems to be for hackers to access credit card numbers, it is just as easy to obtain user identities as well as passwords.
There are sites that look like certain sites that users frequently use that are illusion sites. You enter your id and password and it will say incorrect. You then enter another id and password and it repeats the same. Why? They are hacker sites that are actually id/password retrieval sites. Yahoo is one of the most hacked as well as unsafe sites. When you realize what technology can do for you, you will then you will also realize what technology can do to you.
Protecting your computers from hackers and viruses and keeping your personal Information private should be of high importance. Remember it is best to run your firewalls and anti-virus software first. Always log off line when your computers are not in use. Hackers get into your system through internet connections. Some say it's safe to use your credit cards online for purchases. I say use PayPal or something like it. Also there are prepaid credit cards that you should buy as well as use for online purchases. This insures your personal account safety.
With it being so easy to make your own website, it is just as easy to make your own duplicate site or any site and copy n paste the BBB button as well as anything else to make your site look legit. This seems to be happening as we speak. People are ordering things thinking they are legit ordering sites to find the received nothing. Or to call the bank and find that they are in the hole. Choosing the best protection against viruses, spy-ware, ad-ware, potentially unwanted applications and hackers, so you no longer need to manage multiple products to stop different threats is an important process one should give serious consideration.
Whether you connect to the Internet occasionally with a dial-up connection, or you are constantly connected by DSL, Cable, and satellite or by a network, your personal data is at risk now more than ever. As technology changes, so does the ability to advance the skills of a hacker. As new programs are being made to stop hackers, new hacker programs are being made. Internet security needs to be taken seriously.
Well I hope that you give your own personal online protection a closer look. Are you safe? Thanks for reading.

..and also friendster is a an unsafe site..
Very good. You should also never use a Visa Debit card online because sometimes it can take a longer time to dispute incorrect charges meanwhile you could bounce checks while you are waiting.
:::knock on wood::: i've never had a hacker before, but i'll definitely follow these tips to make sure it never happens. thanks!
very helpful tips
Securing your PC is an on-going job. There will always be hackers out there; no matter how much companies update their security features.
Having an IT professional for a husband I never seem to hear the end of security issues for our computer. But I have also seen the harm that can be done by those who haven't taken the proper precautions. A lot of it is just simple common sense. A lot of the hacking you still hear about today is from people opening an email from someone they don't know or clicking on a link they shouldn't have.
interesting tips.
For what it's worth, my young relatives have never abused the trust I place in them.
