Prototype was released on June 9, 2009 in North America under Activision development. Once you put the game in you automatically know that you did not pick up just another run-of-the-mill game, within the first 10 minutes of the game you are running up the side of upscale New York as Alex Mercer. One of the key aspects of originality in this game is the fact that you have the ability to consume people or even infected zombie like creatures to regain health, steal memories, or even take the form of the poor sap. In the tutorial period you have full access to all of Alex Mercer's incredible abilities. But once you complete the basic moves and etc. you come to a cut-scene where Alex is being autopsied when he suddenly awakens and breaks out of the military facility he is in. You will quickly notice that you are immensely weaker, and the only thing you can remember is the fact of Alex having a sister named Dana and the Journey starts with Alex in search of consumable targets that have memories involving your sisters current location.

The features of this game are what makes it a very addictive single-player game. When playing Prototype there is rarely a stale moment, with the combination of boss battles and constant unlocking of abilities, there is endless amounts of possible game-play. To supplement that, after you complete the campaign of Prototype you can restart the campaign with all of your abilities still unlocked. So, that big boss battle that hassled you so much the first time will not be an issue the second time. Even the weaponry system is enjoyable for every one of your weapons creates massive amounts of blood and gore. The best part about the weapons is though, there is a large amount of useable combos to decimate you enemies in to utter oblivion. All of which is built into a story that is quite interesting and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

But with all of those pro's surprisingly there arent very many con's. most of the cons are in the fighting of larger enemies, which sometimes can seem over-powered if you do not fight it a certain way. The easiest difficulty makes it seem like the next step up would not be much different but it is. Playing on normal difficulty is about three times as hard as easy and it will take some people off guard. The enemies are not the smartest or most original fighters, even the smallest and weakest of the enemies try to muscle Alex. When the government is in pursuit of you it is the most annoying thing in the game, especially when they start sending uav drones after you, quickly followed by strike teams. Most of all though, it saddens this reviewer to say there is no multiplayer.

All in all Prototype is a great game worth buying for there is just too much play-time to merely rent it.
