A Game of the Year Award waiting to happen. You play as Alex Mercer, who wakes up with amnesia, he has no recollection of who he is or where he came from. All Alex knows is that he seems to have some form of shape shifting powers.

The storyline is a lot like one's we've seen quite often, a viral outbreak. Day-by-day the population of those infected increases, adding to your foes along the way, thus making the learning curve for this game spot on. After completing a certain amount of missions the day changes, new missions become available, and new activities to go with it.

In Prototype you can do virtually whatever you want, Prototype never gets old with all of it's varied missions, and side quests you can take part in. Between scaling sky-scrapers in mere seconds, leaping at helicopters, driving tanks, and consuming your victims, is has something for everyone.

Alex Mercer can jump from the highest building landing with an earth shattering force, knocking away bi-standards and foes alike, he'll never take damage from falling at any height. Controlling a massive array of abilities and mind boggling techniques, Alex is truly incredible. After consuming your enemies you assume their identity, and sometimes their memories, and abilities. While controlling certain military personnel you can, drive an APC, call in an Air-strike, or gain access to needed buildings.

For those wondering there's no multi-player in Prototype, it is unfortunate, but it is surely fun enough on your own. The game offers a new game plus type after beating it you can start a new game while keeping all of your old abilities that you've unlocked.

Gaining the Hijack ability is very useful, it is often easier to hijack a vehicle or helicopter than destroy it outright. On top of which it's simply fun. After brutalizing your victims, assuming they're militia or police, you can take their weapons, from assault rifles to rocket launchers. You can never blow up too many innocent civilians, as Mercer is an unmerciful man on a mission.

The only thing really holding back this game is the poor targeting system, along with some undesirable graphics. Most of the buildings look like untextured blocks, similar to Lego's. The vehicles are bland in shape and form, and always destroy the same way. However most of the time you'll be bouncing and bounding over buildings, and obstacles too fast to notice or care.

Mercer controls many different forms, making his body an ultimate weapon, between blade like hands, and rock like fists, he's an all-around destroyer of anything he pleases. Prototype will defiantly hold your attention in it's adept story line, and simply keep you begging for the sequel.
