Ft. Myers problems were expressed by the Bill McCollum "Southwest Florida has been hit especially hard in the economic downturn. Hendry County reported the highest unemployment numbers in Florida for September. There were 4,888 total foreclosure-related notices filed in the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area in September, which equates to one for every 74 households. Families in this region are clearly facing unprecedented times and undoubtedly being forced to make difficult choices."
This type of government meetings is exactly what is needed. Looking back at other Town Hall type meetings that took place, feelings were running high, but the politicians failed to answer questions and one even answered the cell phone in the middle of a so called answer. In general I lost confidence in many government officials, programs and members of Congress.
Not all town hall meetings are like these meetings with the attorney general. In August one Town Hall meeting on healthcare turn ugly, reportedly hundreds of people were not able to get into the meeting room. a group with an organizer caused problems which were blamed on the Republican party.
I receive the Florida Attorney general's monthly news letter just so I can feel the pride in my state government, ok a small part of the government. But it is nice to see first hand what is to happen in the next meeting as well as getting the news such as the the Florida Attorney General announcing the recovery of $168 million in fraudulent Medicaid Claims and other money collected by the Attorney General and other agencies in civil matters.
Yes with all that is wrong with the government, economy and of course healthcare, a little good news from a government agency is definitely nice for a change. In Georgia there are 36 full time employees to work in the Medicaid fraud unit and on patient abuse. In Florida Medicaid fraud can cost hundreds of millions yearly and generally comes from doctors, dentist, clinics and other healthcare providers, by overbilling or billing for services never preformed on fake patients or patients never seen.
With men like our attorney general Bill McCollum in office we still have hope.

If running for governor or any office I believe he would do the job. I vote for Him
I was surprised to see that he was your state AG. He's been around for a long time. I remember when he was in Congress and ran for U.S. Senate. He's a steady guy. I wonder if he's angling for Governor.
Good for them to attempt to get a break in this housing market.
