Proverbs 8 - Diligently Seeking Wisdom

Day 35 - a Year with God

"And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me find life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death." Proverbs 8: 32-36

I am making my way through Proverbs and Wisdom is a big theme, as was adultery. Why is it that we have to keep being reminded to not be adulteress? Why is it we have to keep being instructed to seek wisdom?

Obviously, we are stubborn and just don't get it. Adultery has been wrong, continues to be wrong; and yet, it is still rampant. After numerous warnings about seeking wisdom, you would think; "Enough already." If it wasn't an important concept for us to grasp it wouldn't be covered so much.

If people are still committing adultery, still sinning and still doing things that they aren't supposed to be doing; are we really getting the seeking wisdom part down?

It seems like a complete no-brainer. Why would you not seek wisdom? How could that not be a good thing? Yet many of us are going through life just doing what we do and not really being aware of the consequences of our actions. Or the consequences of our inactions, as the case may be.

How many times have I made a comment or asked a thoughtless question? How many times have I accepted less of myself and of others than what God expects of us?

Wisdom makes a point in Proverbs 8 of saying that she was there in the beginning. When he created the world, she was there. She is there and continues to be there; we must only seek wisdom. Sometimes we are too busy making excuses instead of seeking wisdom.

Right now, seeking wisdom to me is studying the Bible. I could read the Bible and not learn a thing. I could make my way through every page and not gain an ounce of wisdom. I know I have to study it. And not just one time, or two times. The things that I need work on, I have to read and re-read pertaining scripture over and over again.

Maybe that is the whole point of the repetition. We hear something once and we forget. We have to do as wisdom says in verse 17, and seek wisdom diligently.
