Prozac Side Effects: Nightmarish Headaches

Gayle Parks
During a particularly hard and trying time in my life I was prescribed Prozac. It was suppose to help with my feelings of deep depression and it did help, but at a cost I wasn't able to keep paying. Even though Prozac did help me to feel better as far as my depression was concerned the side effects proved too much for me. Prozac side effects caused me too much pain and too many additional problems so I was forced to stop taking it.

The first side effect I experienced was trouble sleeping so my doctor prescribed yet another drug to help me sleep. Trouble sleeping was only one of the many Prozac side effects that would afflict me. But when I began sleeping again I starting having vivid and disturbing nightmares; abnormal dreams is a common side effect of Prozac. Many of these dreams were very frightening and disturbing and I was almost afraid to go to sleep for fear of having a nightmare.

Then came the extremely painful headaches. These headaches did not respond to normal headache relief medications and made it very hard for me to concentrate at work and at home. It was these relentless headaches that finally tipped the scale and caused me to call my doctor and request an alternative treatment.

Prozac side effects are not uncommon and some can be quite bothersome, painful and even dangerous. Any side effect should be short term and should disappear as your body gets used to the drug you are taking but sometimes they hang on and can cause unnecessary discomfort and worry. Be sure to discuss any and all side effects with your doctor especially if they become worse instead of better and if they disrupt your sleep or other aspects of your life.
