I'm doing Psalms 9 and 10 together because I think they started out as one Psalm, though both in lyrics and in singing I intend to note the break. One reason to think them one Psalm is that most psalms from 3 to 42 have titles, but psalms 10 doesn't. And in the ancient Greek version ("Septuagint") they're one psalm.
Tune "Dundee," C.M., 28A in The Book of Psalms for Singing or #26 in the hymnal "Songs of Faith and Praise." (Composer died A.D. 1615). In the two 6-line stanzas, repeat tune of lines 3-4 for lines 5-6.
Psalm 9 To the overseer on the death of Labben, psalm of David
I'll praise you LORD with all my heart
Your wondrous works proclaim.
In you, Most High, I'll greatly joy
--Sing praise unto your name.
When back my foes are turned they fall
And perish at your sight
For you've maintained my right and cause;
in throne sat judging right.
You have rebuked the heathen, have
Destroyed the wicked ones.
You have put out their name, that they
Forever be unknown.
O enemy, destructions came
To a perpetual end.
You've flattened cities; dead with them
Is their memoriam.
Jehovah ever living has
For judgment prepped his throne.
He'll judge the world in righteousness
Uprightly judge each one.
Jehovah also will a ref-
uge be for those oppressed.
A refuge he will be in times
Of trouble, times of mess.
And they that know your name will put
Their trust in you, for you,
Jehovah, have forsaken none
That seek your face to view.
Sing praises to Jehovah, he
That dwells in Zion hill.
Declare among the people all
His doings wondrous well.
When he asks where spilt blood has gone
He then remembers them.
The humble folk he not forgets
That call upon his name.
Jehovah, mercy have on me;
My troubles from my hat-
ers view, O you that lift me up,
Up from death's very gates
That I in Zion 's daughters' gates
May show forth all your praise
And I in your salvation will
Rejoice rejoice rejoice.
The heathen are sunk down into
The pit which they have made
And in the net which they have hid
Is their own foot ensnared.
Jehovah's by the judgment known
Which he doth execute
The wicked's snared in own hand's work.
Hig-a-i-on. Selah.
The wicked into hell shall be
Turned, and into hell shall
All nations be turned that forget
God living judge of all.
For they that needy are shall not
Always forgotten be.
The expectation of the poor
Shall perish not always.
Jehovah rise, let not man win,
Judged let the heathen be
In your sight. O put them in fear,
Jehovah, that the na-
tions know themselves to be but men.
Selah. Lord, this I pray.
Psalm 10
Why do you stand, O Jehovah,
Off from us very far?
And why Lord do you hide yourself
When times of trouble are?
The wicked in his pride of life
Doth persecute the poor.
Let them be taken in the traps
They've dreamed up and think sure.
The wicked boasts, he claims and brags
About his heart's desire.
The covetous he blesses whom
Jehovah doth abhor.
The wicked through his face's pride
Will not seek. God is not
In all his thoughts. And his life's ways
They always pain give out.
Your judgments are too high for him
At all his foes he puffs.
Within his heart he thus has said
"I'm shaken not nor moved.
Through generations never I
To trouble shall be shoved."
His mouth with oaths deceits and frauds
Is filled abundantly
Perverseness hides beneath his tongue
With gross iniquity.
In villages he ambush lays
Yes, kills the innocent.
Against afflicted neighbor-men
His hidden eyes are bent.
He lion-like hides for his pounce;
He hides and waits to take
The poor. The poor he catches, draw-
ing him into his net.
Th'afflicted man is bruised; he bows
Down; he's been made to fall
By mighty ones who serve the wic-
ked; force with cunning proud.
He said within his heart, God has
Forgotten all these things,
That God has hid his face, and He
These things has never seen.
Get up, Jehovah! O, O God
Lift up your hand on high;
Put not the meek, the humble ones
Out of your memory.
Why is it that the wicked man
Has thus despis-ed God?
Because "Oh, it is not required"
He in his heart has said.
God, you have seen; you perverseness
And anger do behold.
Afflicted ones leave it to you;
The fatherless you helped.
O break the arm the wicked has,
The arm of th'evil one.
Seek out his wickedness until
You find quite simply none.
Jehovah is king to the age,
For ever king is he.
The nations from Jehovah's land
Have perished utterly.
Jehovah , the desire of
The humble you have heard.
You do prepare their heart; you cause
Your ear to hear their word
To judge the fatherless and bruised
To judge their cause, to bless
hat man with life of only earth
Adds no more to oppress.
