Psoriasis - is it More Than Skin Deep?
Psoriasis is a Skin Disease Which is Irritating, Often Unsightly, Sore ...
A skin disorder characterized by red patches covered by silvery white scales, which can develop anywhere on the body, from the scalp down the the soles on your feet. The condition is caused when the skin cells divide too rapidly
and accumulate instead of being shed.
Psoriasis is a skin disease that is irritating, sometimes sore, forever stinging and often very unsightly. For many, Psorisis can be more than skin deep and can dictate the type of attire that they wear daily. Mini skirts are a definite no-no as, simply the notion of revealing so much flesh to someone who suffers from this ailment, can be upsetting.
For those with Psoriasis their skin goes into overdrive and produces hard, crusty scales just about anywhere on their body. Psoriasis - the "p" is silent, is neither contagious nor life threatening. On the other hand, it is constantly irritating, sore, often unsightly and forever stinging. This ailment has no respect of a pretty profile and can attack any part of the body particularly when a person is under stress. Smoking can also bring on an attack as can sea water and extreme stress.
There are 45 different types of Psoriasis including scales, pimples and plaque. Whilst most sufferers resort to everything from coconut oil, vasceline or even to a full arsenal of pharmaceutical creams, others go for hospital treatment where ultra-violet rays are trained onto the troubled skin. This can produce positive results although the benefits never last more than a few months.
Psoriasis is a puzzle as treatments that work wonders for one person may have little or no effect on another. Alternative or Complementary Healthcare offer the following treatments to people with this debilitating skin disease;
Herbal extractions: Oregon Grape Root Extract, Herbal Detox Tea. Herbs have historically been used in the treatment of Psoriasis and other skin conditions as they clense the body of toxins and assist in optimizing liver function.
Nile Herb: Used thousands of years ago by the ancient Egyptians. Today, extract of Nile Herb and exposure to ultra violet light are used to treat severe Psoriasis however the downside of this treatment is skin cancel associated with ultra violet light.
Dead Sea Salts: Have been used for thousands of years in the Middle East to treat skin conditions. The salts aid the natural healing process and can be used in the comfort of your own home. For those who can afford a trip to Israel the Dead Sea is a famous healing resort for Psoriasis.
Dietry Supplements: Omega Fortified Flax, Alkyrol Shark Liver Oil. These oils improve your defence systems.
Homeopatic Treatment: This form of treatment helps you to target the source of the problem with no side effects.
Fish Oil Supplements: Many people find great relief in fish oil supplements - Omega 3. This form of treatment has been found to work in many people by giving relief from the itching and inflamation. This supplement I would highly recommend for anyone sufferring from Psoriasis.
There are many and varied forms of complementary methods which help to alleviate and control Psoriasis and there is even a Psoriasis Diet Control book available which teaches you correct and balanced nutrition. Food allergies, particularly foods that contain yeast, can be a significant factor to the onset of a bout of Psoriasis.
Finally, there are numerous across-the-counter or prescribed treatments that you can get from your Doctor in order to alleviate the sympsoms of Psoriasis. My suggestion is, no matter what treatment you select, anyone who suffers from Psoriasis should take one of the Omega 3 supplements as it is offers relief from this skin disorder.
