Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator accused of sexually assaulting at least eight underage boys, has been arrested on two new sex abuse charges.
The Associated Press reported Wednesday afternoon that Sandusky was taken into custody after two news accusers were questioned by the grand jury. One victim, mentioned as "Victim 10" in the amended grand jury report, claims that he attended Penn State football games with Sandusky in 1997. According to the report, Victim 10 never spent the night at Sandusky's home, but he did "spend most of his time in the basement" while at the Sandusky residence. The victim stated that he was sexually assaulted in Sandusky's basement and at the "outdoor pool on campus." Victim 10 contacted the Office of the Attorney General regarding the alleged incidents following Sandusky's initial arrest.
Victim 9, currently 18 years of age, began participating in Sandusky's Second Mile program back in 2004. Sandusky made initial contact with the victim when the young man was "11 or 12 years old." According to the grand jury report, Sandusky took Victim 9 to "numerous" Penn State football games, and also gave the victim both gifts and money. Victim 9 testified that what were once "simple acts of affection" eventually evolved into sexual assaults.
Victim 9, like Victim 10, told the grand jury that, while at the Sandusky residence, he spent most of his time in the basement, and that he spent the night at the Sandusky home "on numerous occasions" while between the ages of 12 and 15. It was in the basement, Victim 9 states, where the alleged sexual assaults occurred. Victim 9 also told the grand jury that, on "at least one occasion," he screamed for help during one of the incidents, as he knew Jerry Sandusky's wife was upstairs. The victim claims neither Sandusky's wife nor anybody else came to his aid. Victim 9, like Victim 10, contacted authorities sometime after Sandusky was arrested in November.
As many have predicted, the Sandusky case continues to get more and more disturbing as the weeks go on. Numerous sources, including the Sporting News, reported weeks ago that Sandusky was banned from "taking youths onto the school's main campus" in 2002. If alleged Victims 9 and 10 are telling the truth, Sandusky took at least one youth to "numerous football games" after 2002, and he also inappropriately touched a male while at a campus pool before 2002.
Numerous friends/sources I know and trust have stated, some with photographic evidence to prove their claims, that Sandusky was at Penn State football events as recently as this calendar year. If these new reports are "only the beginning" as many have said, that black cloud which has hovered over Penn State football for nearly a month is only going to get bigger and darker.
