Psych Episode Review: Scary Sherry: Bianca's Toast

Steve Helmer
Synopsis: Shawn and Gus are asked to help investigate the death of a college student who fell out of a window at an abandoned mental institution, forcing them to re-live the memory of witnessing a mental patient (Scary Sherry) leaping out of the same window when they were kids.

What I liked about this episode: I think the best part of this episode (for me at least) was the early scene at the sorority house where the girls are spooked by ghostly lights and sounds only to have Shawn and Gus fleeing the building screaming like little girls. That was one of the classic Scooby-Doo-Like moments that I love about this series.

Also, the fight scene at the end, between Jules and the killer was pretty entertaining too; especially when Jules looked like she was going to end up snapping.

I didn't think I would like that part with Lassiter and his temporary new partner (Jules was undercover). But, I found there were some funny moments with that one, especially when she started interrogating a victim like he was the primary suspect.

What I didn't like about this episode: I was kind of disappointed by the fact the primary suspect also ended up being the killer. I think the cases are much more interesting when it turns out to be someone standing in the background that you wouldn't even think is a suspect until the very end.

Also, the revelation Shawn's dad makes about Scary Sherry (where he reveals she didn't really leap to her death and was pulled back into the hospital at the last second) kind of ruined things a bit for me. I think it would have been better to reveal that after the case was solved; making the fact Gus was so terrified about going into that building much more believable (why would he still be scared if he knew she didn't die?)

My Final Opinion: It was an OK episode with some funny moments. But, the case was a little too easy for them to solve in my opinion.
