Psych Episode Review: Shawn, Interrupted

Steve Helmer

Synopsis: When a man Lassiter arrested for murder is found not guilty for reasons of insanity, Shawn goes undercover as a patient at the mental hospital to prove the man is faking it.

What I liked about this episode: Given all the crazy stunts he pulls on the show, sending Shawn to a hospital pretending to be a mental patient just seemed to work perfectly. I especially loved how he gradually started to like being there; giving Jules reason to want him to leave as soon as possible.

The part with Gus working as an orderly was also a nice touch; especially when it came to his romantic interest in one of the patients there (a woman with multiple personalities). That part where he asked if kissing a woman who thinks she's a man was the same as actually kissing a man was both funny and something that really does create a subject for conversation later.

What I didn't like about this episode: Even though the whole Shawn as a mental patient thing was funny, the case he was trying to solve really wasn't anything overly complicated. I picked out the real killer the second he was introduced (and even guessed at the reason) and really find it hard to believe it took so long for everyone else to figure it out.

Final Opinion: The episode is somewhat clever and did score points with me when it came to the comedy part. However, I think it would have been considerably better if the actual mystery would have complimented the overall plot a bit better.
