Both psychic vampires and spiritual individuals such as Pagans engage in drawing or feeding on energy. Some people feel that they need to be careful who they feed from and where they feed, for fear that they may be taking in negative energy which would be counterproductive to their goals. So the question arises: is there such a thing as positive and negative energy, and can negative energy cause harm to the person feeding on it?

The answer is both yes and no. There is such a thing as positive and negative energy, and negative energy can do harm to the person feeding on it. However, in order for energy to be positive or negative, there has to be intent from the person emitting the energy. The reverse is true if the person has the intent that their expended energy will aid those they come in contact with. Those people can be a blessing to both energy feeders and general people alike.

It seems that a great deal of people's fear in feeding off strangers comes from this misconception that their energy may be tainted. If you feed on someone who is sick, wouldn't you be drawing their sickness into yourself? If you feed on someone who is angry or evil, wouldn't you be drawing that anger and evil into yourself? The simple answer is no. Unless that person has the intent to spread their illness or ill will to others, the energy they expend would become neutral as soon as it leaves their body.

So, does it matter whether you draw energy from someone who is willing or a complete stranger? That is an ethical question that must be handled by the individual doing the psychic feeding. I would say that feeding from a willing donor would be better for the simple fact that they can add positive intent to the energy, and they can also aid in "pushing" the energy to you. However, I don't see a major issue with drawing energy from strangers so long as you only take the freely expended energy, and don't attempt to take energy they are not consenting to give.

If you still have issues with the thought of possibly feeding on negative energy, there are some measures you might take to protect yourself. You may want to avoid feeding in places where there is a lot of negative emotion. While there is a great deal of energy expended when people are feeling anger or grief, if you fear negative energy, you may want to avoid feeding around such emotions. You may also want to learn to visualize a filter on your body that negates any emotion or intent within the energy you're drawing, and makes it into a neutral, useable energy.

No matter how you decide to draw energy or whom you might draw psychic energy from, the choice is yours. There is a wealth of energy being expended all around you, and you can choose to use it or not. Hopefully though, the knowledge that energy is neutral until it is made otherwise through personal intent will open you up to other psychic feeding and energy drawing opportunities.
