Ptossing: The Fun Way to Get Fit

Drew Graham
Most people find working out to be boring and monotonous and as a result have a hard time sticking with it. Fortunately there is an alternative to boring workouts and it is called ptossing. Not only does ptossing make exercising fun it is one of the most effective work outs you will ever encounter.

Ptossing (pronounced tossing) is a fitness method which combines body weight exercises and perpetual motion. The name is an acronym of the five laws of ptossing.

Perpetual state of motion: You must always be moving, use lighter intensity for a rest but you must not stop.

Travel a new path: You must use a different route for every run.

Outdoors: Ptossing must always be done outdoors.

Self as Resistance: Your body must provide the resistance for every exercise.

Sprint is vital: Your encouraged to sprint as often as possible but you must sprint up every hill.

Ptossing is essentially just a run during which you will complete a number of tasks (called ptasks). For example the tasks for a specific run might be to do a hundred each of push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats. You start running and along the way you stop to do your resistance exercises, you can break them up anyway you want. For example 20 of each then run for a bit and do 20 more and so on. The run is finished once you have completed all of your tasks. Remember you must sprint up every hill and must not stop running, if you need a rest run at a slower pace but do not stop. If you want to increase the intensity you can add what ptossers call a kink. A kink is a signal to sprint, for example you could choose the colour red, you would start sprinting whenever you see the colour red and keep going until you see the colour red again. Choose your kinks wisely or you could end up sprinting for a long time.

The aim of ptossing is to develop every component of fitness and to do it in a way that is fun and exciting. Ptossing's ultimate goal is to get people to a level of fitness so that any limitations of movement are not caused by a lack of physical ability. Ptossing burns more calories by achieving more movement in less time, and avoids plateauing and monotony by introducing randomness into every workout. Other important aspects of ptossing are that it should be free of charge and take advantage of an ever changing environment.

Anyone looking for a way to get into shape quickly should give ptossing serious consideration. It is a brief intense work out that covers every aspect of fitness.
