Pub and the Public

T. Ramaswamy
A group of puritans are confronted by a gang of rationalists. The topic of discussion is values in society. Puritans vociferously argue for upholding cherished values of society which alone can avoid conflict and ensure harmony. But the rationalists take a diametrically opposite view. Each group quoted examples. Rationalists include boys and girls. Finally one example centered on pub culture. In the group there is a man with chronic stammering.
The argument follows:
Rationalist: It is strange that in a modern society with the advancement of civilization why there should be objection to the pub culture.
Puritan: That culture is nauseating. It shows symptoms of a sick society.
Rationalist: Why do you say that? What is wrong with society?
Puritan: I am only saying that we face a situation where cherished values are uprooted.
Rationalist: Give an example.
Puritan: Take the case of the vice known as pub culture. Boys and girls walk with hands intertwined; enter a pub and drink and dance. This show goes on till late night and later all events considered obscene take place. Sometimes girls are molested.
Rationalist: There is no molestation. In fact this gives relief from stress. You can ask the girls present here.
Girl: I agree with my friend. I get relief after entering a pub. I love to visit daily. In fact I don't feel tension at all. I fine fit to work the following day after a night of relaxation and enjoyment.
Puritan: How can you say that is it relaxation? You boys and girls eat all stimulants, junk food, drink, and dance and later you don't know on whose shoulder one is sitting or hanging. Is it relaxation? I ask .It leaves a bad image before the public.
Rationalist girl: What is wrong? We know the cut off point. We are mature. We know when and where to stop. We ensure that events don't turn ugly.
Then a boy from the puritan side with severe stammering intervened; He asked: My dear friends. I don't understand the pub business. How can pub culture affect the public?
Puritan: That is exactly the point. You have hit the nail on the head. Your question has the answer too. You, misspell the word public. That is taken advantage by the revelers.
Stammerer: You wrongly interpret what I said. I meant public
Puritan: You did misspell. That tarnishes the concept of relief and relaxation
