Public Option for Health Care Reform

Not Under This Republic

C. L. Collins
Barack Obama recently stated in a New York Times op-ed that - "Only national health care can provide coverage that will stay with you whether you move, change your job, or even lose your job." The way the Obama policies are headed, millions more won't have jobs soon.

However, if that's the case, then why bother having private insurance to begin with? It will drive the private insurance out of business faster than a herd of sheep heading toward a watering hole.

There are those that state that the public option will not throw out the private industry, only compete. Well okay, yell the word discount - cheap - low cost - and see how fast people will run to it and take advantage of it. People love a cheap deal - it is inbred into our minds of financial responsibility to seek out deals - the public option will drive that mindset.

America was founded on the foundation of freedom and along with freedom comes freedom of the free market -- the private sector. Bring in a public option; millions will lose that freedom of choice as they are taxed even more to pay for a government run system that will fail. You will be taxed and penalized to pay for something you did not ask for. You will not have a choice to opt out of paying more taxes. The reason that cannot keep your insurance or even obtain new insurance even across state lines is because of government intrusion - bring the public option to center stage and the word intrusion will take on a new meaning.

Under the public option - the government - not you will dictate decisions on everything from medications you need to whether or not it is cost effective to just allow that awful illness to turn you into a vegetable and wither away. With most employers, they have several plans to choose from and with each plan, there are set provisions on various types of procedures, illnesses, medication options they will cover.

The public option will have the same thing with one exception - they will control all aspects of your well-being and will dictate everything leaving no decisions to be made by you - did I mention the long wait times for simple medical procedures you will endure?

What are some of things the government will institute with a public option? Let's start with my favorite -- fine businesses that do not provide insurance for their employees and also fine individuals who choose not to purchase health insurance - a detail that should wake even the dead up.

The Obama administrations and liberals in general continue to spout the number 49-million lack healthcare insurance - fact is, only approx. 4.5% -- of the entire population of the United States lacks insurance. The remainder of that so-called 49 million either does not want healthcare insurance or they are here illegally. Why would anyone spend over $1 trillion on 4.5% of the population?

This public option also does not include a ban on abortions. So nearly half the country who opposes abortion will have to pay taxes for abortion whether they want to or not.

In spite what the democrats and Obama state, the public option will not work for the following reasons.

Costs will be a huge factor and despite the calls that the cost will be controlled, it won't be. Unless someone has a crystal ball up their sleeve, no cost analysis of any program the government comes up with has ever been correct. Just ask Massachusetts how their so-called cost controlled healthcare is doing these days. Their costs have tripled since the inception of their state mandated healthcare.

Government mandate to control costs by dictating prices is faulted and only the Democrats could dream up something like that but reality dictates the opposite. As with any business venture, controlling costs is pinnacle in corporate plans but that can only be sustained for so long before economic conditions dictate changes. Funny how many do not factor in such things not to mention, rates of inflation. Furthermore, what incentive would that give doctors who spent thousands of dollars worth of education and years of study and then go on to work for the government that instills mandated reduced rates? Anyone with an IQ of at least one can see where that will lead.

All employers would be mandated to provide insurance to employees or be fined. Yeah, that will do wonders for the economy when seventy-five percent of the jobs created in this country are created by small to medium sized businesses. Do businesses need to be taxed more in this recession we are in?

Let's field one real fact -- Social Security, Medicare, VA, and other programs initiated by the US government are broken. Yes, broken and how anyone can think that a government healthcare option won't have the same problems is not living in reality but of a media or political mentality.

There you have it - a government illness in the making. Many have been deceived into thinking that this so-called public option paid for by you, the tax-payer, will rise and shine among those in the world because we will have nationalized healthcare like the rest of the modern world.

Okay, so the world will love us but none of those other nations have a Constitution like ours not to mention, we are a Republic and not a true democracy. How does this play into the healthcare issue? Our Constitution limits government involvement into people's lives and to allow the free market to bear itself without government intervention that would stifle such goals. For too long now, the federal government has violated those principles of the US Constitution such as Social Security and Medicare. The intent of the government sought goodwill in such government run programs but they also go against the Constitution. What all of this boils down to is, a power grab and control of your life and nothing more.

Adding a public-option for healthcare, paid for by us, controls the lives of many in which the government has no business doing. The government's job is to promote the welfare of the state, not take it over which is precisely what the public option will end up doing, being run by bureaucrats.

There is a bill that leaves your entire healthcare needs in your hands, not the governments and that bill is H.R. 3400.

Less we forget that personal responsibility plays a large part when it comes to our health. There are those that scream that it is a right to have healthcare, which by the way, everyone has access to healthcare - a known fact that the liberals never mention - so we are speaking about healthcare insurance. So if it is a right, then responsibility must have a play with that right.

It is obvious that "some" reform is needed but not on the government level but played out in the private sector with the government "promoting" such a venture to fix some areas that will allow affordable coverage for everyone and no one to be denied based on pre-existing conditions.

If you give the government full control of your healthcare needs and decisions, not only is it an unworkable socialist program, but an illness in which no cure exists.
Keep your health care decisions and needs in your hands. Your health will depend on it.
