Public Record: Background Search

Melvin Richardson
When it comes to public records a lot of people don't know all of the information that they have access to. There are so many things that fall up under the category of public record that you will be amazed. You can search public records and find things such as marriage filings. Public records would enable you to tell if someone was recently married. Sometimes people will abandon property; well you can also tell who the owner of unclaimed property is. Perhaps you want to know if someone has a hair stylist license, or a barber's license or maybe you want to see if someone has a license to become an investment broker or insurance agent. That's all available as well. You can find these items under professional licenses.

You can check out information regarding births, deaths, inmates, civil court filings and a lot of other things. You can search for all of these types of items and more at your county courthouse. All you have to do is visit your local tax assessor's office and they will direct you from there.

There are a number of websites that allow you to search for public records on just about anybody. Some are free and some you have to pay a fee. If you decide to visit the courthouse you won't have to pay anything except for your time. Should you decide to visit the courthouse then it can be time consuming. Most of the items will be documented and filed in large books categorized by specific titles such as book and page or volume. Some are listed by address and name. It really depends on what you are looking for. When you search on the internet they may need a whole new set of criteria from what you would if you need appeared in person at the courthouse.

If you want to know if someone has a particular license for their business you will be able to check out that information as well. For the most part all you will need is some basic information such as a person's name or address. This can vary from source to source. If you are looking to see if there is a mortgage on a property you can use either a name or address and that should be enough information for your search. While searching on the internet you may have to provide a book, page or volume number but that too can vary.
