In numerous instances kids have shown that given proper education, they can save lives in an emergency. One event where kids can have fun, and get free safety awareness, is at the annual Public Safety Day for Kids in Lafayette, Colorado. Staff from local and regional public safety organizations are on hand with kid-friendly educational demonstrations and activities at LaMont Does Park on July 14, 2010. Come check out the exhibits, munch on free food, and then head to the pool for free swimming.

The Lafayette Police Department is a major sponsor of Public Safety Day. They will have an exhibit that may include: a police cruiser, a police motorcycle, the K-9 Unit, and bicycle patrol officers. Officers will be available to answer any of your kids questions or just to meet them in a fun environment.

Be sure to have your kids bring their bicycles to Public Safety Day. They can register their bicycles for free with the Police Department. In the event their bicycle later goes missing, this will help return it to its owner. Don't worry if your child can't bring their bike for the day, you can register it later at the Lafayette Police Department during regular business hours.

After bicycle registration, head to the Bike Rodeo area. There you can take on the bike challenge course. See how your skills compare the Lafayette Police Dept. bike patrol officers.

Parents are not left out at the Lafayette Public Safety Day. Parents can pick up free Child Identification kits, and free gun locks at the exhibitor booths.

The Lafayette Fire Department is also a major sponsor of Public Safety Day. The Fire Department will have fire trucks on site and will be giving tours and demonstrations throughout the event. Learn all about fire safety from the professionals. While you are there, be sure to get a free replica firefighter helmet.

The Lafayette Recreation Department will also be sponsoring an exhibit. Learn what programs are available for kids throughout the year in Lafayette. As part of Public Safety Day for Kids they will be offering free admission for kids to the LaMont Does swimming pool starting at noon. Be sure to bring your swimsuit. There will also be free hot dogs, chips, and sodas available in the gazebo at LaMont Does Park.

There will be many other law enforcement and rescue personnel demonstrations during the event. Members of the Colorado National Guard will give tours of a Blackhawk helicopter. The Boulder County Sheriff's Department in the past has brought their emergency command center truck and the Boulder County Bomb Squad has brought a remote control robot. There will be additional demonstrations provided by Boulder County Paramedics, and Code 3 Associates.

Don't miss out on this opportunity for your kids to meet public safety personnel and learn about home safety in an emergency. It promises to be a fun learning experience.
