Public Schools Going Online - Will it Be Any Different from Homeschooling?

Madison Ogashi

When I seen this piece on Fox News, I knew I had to do a write up. Public schools doing the home-school thing?! Don't get me wrong...I'm all for home-schooling, and I'm for public schools, if they are teaching well. But, there are some public schools that just aren't teaching that good.

For whatever reason, more and more parents are opting for home-school for their kid's. Kid's who will one day be our future. In the future, if you had two kid's deciding on how, where you would spend your golden years, you trust them to make good decisions to help you. and if you could find out about their education...who would you pick to help, the public school educated one, or the home-school educated one?

Of course there are pro's and con's to each side of the education topic. Isn't that why we have school 'choices'? Public vs home-school vs private education. If the public schools go online, then wouldn't that be blending into the home-school way of teaching? We all want the best for our kid's, even if our own parent's couldn't afford the best education for us.

Home-schooling involves a wide area of teaching now. There are still the books, pen & paper, but now there are computers with which to teach and learn from. And soon, the books and pen/paper will no longer be needed. Think of all the tree's that'll be saved from being turned into billions of textbooks.

If every public school in the country goes online, what then will happen to all those school buildings? But as I fear, that is just what will happen, not tomorrow, not by next year....but maybe in twenty to twenty-five years every child going to K-12, in one way or another , will be home-schooled.

We live in a world of change, change that happens somewhere everyday. Just once, I'd like to see something stay the same.

Madison, you bring up some interesting points. Still, I can't imagine every kid staying at home to learn. There are too many parents that like the idea of sending their kids to an actual school.
