Public Swimming Pools in South Carolina

With the arrival of summer comes the smell of chlorine and the happy sounds of children playing in backyard pools. But for those who aren't lucky enough to own a backyard pool there are other options. Many area recreation centers and community centers open up their swimming pools over the summer to area kids and parents. They offer a safe, welcoming atmosphere, where you can take the kids for a hot afternoon of fun and laughter in the cool, crystal blue waters of a swimming pool. In South Carolina there are many such places. In Spartanburg alone there's quite a few spots where you can hear the tinkling sound of water and the rambunctious laughter of children on a hot summers day.

The Spartanburg swim center located on South Church St. in Spartanburg, has a community swimming pool that is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. They are also open from 3:30 to 5:30 on Saturdays. They have family swim days that take place every Monday and Thursday 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., and from 3:30 until 5:30 on Saturdays. Admission is just $1.50 each and there is no lifeguard available during these times. Shipwreck Cove is a new family friendly water park that just opened up in Duncan S.C. this summer. They are located at 119 Spencer Street, in Duncan. They open at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and on Sundays they open after church at 1 p.m. and close at 6 p.m. Admission price for adults is just $10.00 and kids are $5.00 with a discount for the young kids and senior citizens. Shipwreck Cove has many different water rides as well as several swimming pools and water activities to keep the kids busy while the adults enjoy an icy cold beverage at the nearby snack bar.

The Westside Club in Spartanburg S.C. is an upscale, exclusive health club that opens up its pool to the community of Spartanburg during the summer months. On Monday through Thursday they open at 5:30 A.M. so the working public have plenty of time to get their exercise routine in before heading to work. They close at 9 p.m. everyday but Friday and Saturday, on those days they close at 6 p.m. Just $10.00 for non members will get you a day pass for the use of the clubs private pool and outdoor pool, not to mention their shower facilities and dressing rooms. So it's the perfect place to take the kids to spend a hot summer afternoon. Cost is just $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids to enjoy their amenities all afternoon.

The Lakeside Pool is located in Piedmont S.C. and is open from noon to 5 p.m. on most days. This is an outdoor pool with lifeguard on duty so you can relax while the kids enjoy the cool water. Admission is Just $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids.

The Central Clemson Recreation Center at 130 Commons Way in Clemson, is a private facility that offers its patrons private indoor pools as well as lap and therapeutic pools. They are open at 6 a.m. most days and usually stay open until around 8 p.m. A daily pass to enjoy their facilities is just $4.00 to $5.00 dollars each. The Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville, has open swim times for adults and children Monday through Fridays from 12:30 to 3:30, they are closed to the public on Sundays.
