Trying to find a bathroom almost anywhere in New York City is certainly difficult, so the new automatic public toilet in Grand Army Plaza is a welcome relief. However, putting an automatic timer on a public bathroom door that automatically opens whether you're done doing your business or not is asking for trouble.
OK, almost everyone will finish doing their business in the 12-minute time limit that begins after you pay to enter the toilet. But what happens when the alarm and flashing red lights start up at the 12-minute mark, and then three more quick minutes pass before the door opens for all to see? The embarrassed public toilet user no longer is privately using the toilet, but is now publicly using it!

Post a CommentUhhh...no thanks!
Wow- that would make me more paranoid to use a public toilet than I already am! Of course, 12 minutes is a long enough time for most, but imagine what would be seen if the door flew open on someone who really needed that extra time? Gross!
I guess in that case your business had better not take too long! At least users get a warning. I pictured the scenerio of the door opening, and although funny it wouldn't be humorous to whoever it happened to - especially if they had stomach issues.
