If you are visiting Concord, NH and don't drive, don't worry. Public transportation is available to get you anywhere in the small capital city of NH.

The cheapest and the most popular way to get around is the CAT (Concord Authority Transit). A buck and a quarter (one way) will get you to your destination. Some places, such as the hospital and the mall have pick up and drop off directly at the buildings. There are many other strategically placed stops as well. The bus runs Monday through Fridays from 6 AM up until 6:30 PM. It is important to note that the bus does not run on weekends or holidays. You can even get a book of ten tickets for ten bucks if you are on a tight budget.

There is also a trolley. The trolley service runs from 7:40 am until 6:10 pm but the route is not as extensive. Many shoppers and students from a nearby technical institute use it. Little kids seem to enjoy the trolley with the bright colors and clanging bells. The trolley will transport you around downtown; it does a five mile route for the cost of a dollar a trip. The trolley, like bus transportation, does not run on weekends or holidays.

In the last year or so a new service has arrived on the scene. The BPC taxi bus fills the void of no bus transportation on the weekends. It will take you just about anywhere in Concord and also to the village of Penacook and small town next door of Boscawen. It even runs Thursday and Friday evenings until 10:30 PM. Weekends it will start service at 7 AM on Saturdays and 8 AM on Sundays, both days the last run ends at 7 PM. This mode of transportation will cost you five dollars one way.

Of course there are taxis and limousine services available for door to door service, but it will cost more for the convenience of skipping the public transportation system.

If you decide to use public transportation while you are in Concord, you may make some new friends. You can also pat yourself on the back for being a good citizen by saving gas.

Thanks for the information. It's a shame the buses don't run on weekends though. I much prefer public transport than I do driving to get into town and run errands. It took quite some getting used to when I moved over here and realised that there is a very strong car culture in this country.
