Items you'll need for this Thanksgiving craft (make sure you have lots of extra snack items so your child can munch while they work on their craft turkey!):
Chocolate, butterscotch, or some other dark colored pudding
Construction paper (because it's more absorbent)
Raisins or mini chocolate chips
Small pretzel sticks or toothpicks
Red gummy snacks or Fruitloops
Glue
The first step of the craft is to have your child place the palm of his hand into the pudding and then squish his hand onto the center of the paper to make a hand print. This is the messiest and most fun part of this Thanksgiving craft. I let my son lick the pudding off his hand and he thought I was the best mom ever! If you don't like the idea of your child licking the pudding off his hand, make sure to clean it off before moving to the next steps.
For the second part of this fun Thanksgiving craft, your child will make a beak and legs for the turkey using the pretzel sticks. Break two small pieces of the pretzels off to make the beak for the turkey. Have your child glue them to the thumb of the hand print - which is the turkey's head. Take two whole pretzel sticks and glue them at the bottom of the palm print for legs. Add more small pieces of pretzel for turkey toes, if you want.
To finish your Thanksgiving turkey, take a small raisin or chocolate chip and glue it onto the thumb print for your turkey's eye. Finally, glue a red gummy snack over the beak - this will become the turkey's snood - and another under the beak - this is the turkey's wattle. (How's that for some fun Thanksgiving trivia?)
Let the glue and pudding dry and you're finished - you and your child have made a cute Thanksgiving turkey craft and hopefully some great memories, too!
