Pulling the Troops Out of Iraq

Many Americans Are Anxiously Awaiting the Day when Our Troops Will Be Home

While most Americans would love to see less Americans in Iraq, is the solution to pull out the troops within a year?
Politicians are certainly at odds when it comes to the debate.

A recent vote taken by the Senate on March 28 resulted in a surprise for all. The U.S. Senate officially voted to begin withdrawing U.S. combat troops from Iraq.

The shock of the vote is already the cause of aftershocks coming from politicians
.
Senator John McCain in particular stated that, "this legislation is a plan for failure."

McCain was featured on Good Morning America and also mentioned that the legislation would cause more chaos in Iraq as well as the United States.

McCain's confident prediction was that the geographical area would deteriorate and it would follow us home.

McCain also mentioned that many areas of Iraq were calmer than they had been previously, which is an indicator that the United States is actually making progress.

The republican senator is not the only one who is wary concerning the legislation.

Senator John Warner of Virginia also believes the legislation would impede any progress being made in Iraq.

Warner warned that retreating would give Iraq the impression of surrender, or giving up.
The push for the withdrawal of troops was led by democrats.

The vote resulted in a 50-48, 50 senators who agreed to the withdrawal.

A similar vote was taken earlier this month.

Within the past month, two senators changed their minds and the overall voting outcome.

Another Republican Senator of Nebraska, Chuck Hagel, had his own opinion concerning the legislation.
Hagel stated, "We have misunderstood, misread, misplanned and mismanaged our honorable intentions in Iraq with an arrogant self-delusion reminiscent of Vietnam."

Presidential candidate McCain will most likely take the most heat for refusing to compromise on his Iraq stance when compared with the rest of the presidential candidates.

McCain is struggling to meet campaign fundraising goals, however, his confidence has not wavered. McCain firmly believes that leaving the war would only cause further problems for the U.S. on her own soil. He is also confident that the next president will be republican.
