Pumpkin Carving Made Easy

Book Flame

If you want to carve a artistic looking pumpkin then stencils are in order. You can purchase stencils for Halloween in your local convienience store in the holiday section or you can also download them for free on the internet.

Tool Needed

The tools you will need are a Carving Saw for all of those extremely fine detailed areas. You will also need a Transfer Tool wich is used to transfer the design onto the pumpkin and of course you will need the stencils.

Instructions

Cut out the top hole of the pumpkin and gut the pumpkin out. Grab the paper stencil you want to use and trim the excess paper with scissors. Leave at least half an inch border for the tape to go on it. Then attatch the stencil to the pumpkin with tape. Take the Transfer Tool and press it through the design lines on the stencil. You should push just far enough to where it goes through the paper and outer skin of the pumpkin. Once the stencil design has been transffered to the pumpkin remove the stencil and put it aside somewhere nearby incase you have to refer to it while carving.

Next grab the Carving Saw and saw through the design lines with saw like motions. Do not cut it as if you were using a knife. Take your time while using the Carving Saw. Also when making sharp corners it is best to remove the saw and then reinsert it. Once finished push out all of the pieces with your finger or a pencil.

After removing all of the pieces take a small knife and trim all excess flesh. Doing this will allow more light to come through which in return will show your design at its best. Once the pumpkin is trimed and all excess pieces removed take petroleum jelly and coat the edges with it.

7 tips

1. Always make sure kids work with an adult.

2.Put newspapers on the floor to keep the area clean.

3.Make sure no one stands too close to the pumpkin carver if they have a sharp object or knife in their hand.

4.Use a jar lid to scrape out the inside of the pumpkin.

5.If you use a flashlight instead of a candle make sure to put a hole in the back of the pumpkin.

6.If you use a candle make sure to keep all small pets and children at a safe distance.

7.Have an adult cut the top off.
