Renick's Family Market - 14080 US Highway 23, Ashville 740-983-3096
Although my children were grown by the time I discovered Renick's Family Market, I loved stopping by anyway. During the pumpkin season, Renick's is usually packed on the weekends with families taking advantage of their "All You Can Carry" Pumpkin Patch or enjoying the Scarecrow Building and live music.
The "All You Can Carry" Pumpkin patch allows family members to select their pumpkins, then load up the strongest family member with whatever will fit in their arms. The cost for the "All You Can Carry" pumpkin feature is $20. Families can also build a life-size scarecrow to take home dressed in pants and a shirt for $15 or bib overalls and a shirt for $20.
Renick's has an in-store bakery and carries a wide variety of Amish-made food products. My biggest purchase was always Laurelville Apple Cider as Renick's was the most convenient place of find it. I've always lived near cider farms in Knox and Licking County, but there is a special taste in apple cider made from the Laurelville apple farms.
Renick's Family Market is open seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and is less than 15 minutes South of I-270.
Lynd's Fruit Farm - 9090 Morse Road SW, Pataskala 740-927-1333 (recorded updates)
Located at the intersection of Morse Road and SR 310, Lynd's Fruit Farm is an easy drive for You-Pick pumpkins. Two patches are available with full-size Jack-o-Lantern pumpkins priced at $4 and smaller pumpkins $1 each. You-Pick hours of operation during October are every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
Lynd's Fruit Farm also features the Wild West Giant Corn Maze, open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and on Sunday from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Admission to the corn maze is $8 with a reduced price of $5 for ages 4-12. Children 3 and under are admitted free. The 12-and-under crowd can also play in the Straw Maze and Barrel Train for just $2.
If you can't get out on the weekends to pick you own pumpkin, the Tent at the Corner is open every day from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM for freshly-picked produce, including Lynd's wide variety of apples.
Smith Farm Market - 3341 Winchester Pike, Columbus 614-235-2014
Smith Farm Market can be found on the southeast edge of Columbus just off of Route 33. Besides stocking a huge variety of pumpkins, they also have Indian corn, gourds and squash for Halloween decorating.
With an on-site bakery, Smith Farm Market offers 26 kinds of pies as well as many other baked goods, jams and candies. Local honey and Laurelville cider are available, as well.
While visiting Smith Farm Market, stop at OD on BBQ for great hickory-smoked barbecue. Smith Farm Market is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM and from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Sunday.
Keep in mind that there are still several local farmers markets throughout Franklin County until the end of October. If you can't get to the farm, a farmer will bring the pumpkins to you!
