The autumn season during the months of September through October are perfect times for hunting pumpkins for Halloween, fall and Thanksgiving displays. Pumpkins are useful for home decorations and for baking delicious and aromatic homemade pumpkin pie. In the central Illinois area, there are a few available places that families and individuals can visit to search for that perfect pumpkin in the wide open pumpkin patches.

One pumpkin patch that welcomes everybody in the family is Curtis Orchard and Pumpkin Patch in Champaign, Illinois at 3902 S Duncan Rd. The pumpkin patch and orchard is open during the season of July 20th through December 20th. There are a variety of fun and family activities that happen all season long. Starting in July, children can pet the animals at the petting zoo, and play at the Poppyfield playground. Some of the fun things to play on at the playground include a tower, bridge and tunnel area. During the weekends, guests can explore the corn maze, travel through the obstacle course or ride the ponies. Guests may also shop at the country store for flavorful apple cider, preserves and apple butter and shop for produce that is in season. Interested individuals who would like to visit the orchard and pumpkin patch can call Curtis Orchard at 217.359.5565.

Another fun place to stop that is in Amish country is The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur, Illinois. One of the most famous displays and longest running at the patch is the Pumpkin Tree. It stands at attention at the center of the patch. To experience the history of the old-time educational system, you can view the restored one room school-house. It contains original artifacts and has been restored with authentic restructuring. The little visitors of the Great Pumpkin patch can hold an adults hand and go through Wanda's haunted crib and catch a glimpse at Wanda the Witch. Parents may want to see Wanda first before taking their children. Also at the patch, is plenty of fun farm animals for children to see. See the three little pigs or watch the billy goats as they go about their daily animal business. For those on a pumpkin hunt, there are over 300 different varieties of pumpkins to choose from. If you are a fall flower enthusiast, be sure to check out the mums. There is nearly 8000 harvest mums available. Be sure to check their website for possible upcoming live entertainment or if you would like to schedule a field trip for your school or organization. Those with questions can call the Great Pumpkin Patch at 217.543.2394.

So if you and your family want to find the great pumpkin that could be similar to Charlie Brown's adventure, you can visit local patches to experience fun and the ambiance settings of the crisp fall. Bring your children or your friends, a jacket and a wagon to load up on all of your favorite pumpkins, squash, apples and mums.
