Punks Magazine -- A Must Read for Basketball Fans

Nate D.
Punks is a magazine produced by the famous basketball magazine, Slam, that showcases some of the best high school and prep basketball players in the country. The magazine has player rankings for each high school class, interesting articles about players and teams, and great scouting reports. Punks gives information that is not easy to find in many other places. This is a must have for basketball fans.

I received my first issue of Punks recently as a gift. I immediately started flipping through the pages and was very impressed from the start. The player rankings were not just a list of players as is custom, they were detailed accounts of size, speed, skill and pictures for most of the athletes. If a player had already committed to a college to play this was also indicated.

The articles from Punks were extremely well written with the information clearly researched in person by the writer. The articles had an almost informal type of feeling to them and use some "street ball" kinds of slang. The magazine is clearly geared towards high school age kids and college students.

Punks covers the most well known basketball camps such as ABCD Camp, Nike All-American Camp, Adidas Superstar Camp, and others. The photos taken at these camps are top notch. It is great for these young athletes to get exposure through this magazine and have something to hold on to for their whole life, even if basketball doesn't work out as a profession.

The writers for Punks seem to really know what they are talking about and are very knowledgeable especially about the high school game. It is fascinating to me, a big fan of up and coming high school players, to find out more inside information about the soon to be stars.

I recommend this magazine for any true basketball fan, especially those that are fans of the college game. With the new NBA rules requiring most draftees to play college ball, you will want the heads up on who is coming. In Punks you can find out where the most talented high school prospects are either going to college or are considering attending. Also, basketball fans lately have almost seemed to be obsessed with the newest high school stars; just look at all the attention paid to LeBron James, Sebastian Telfair, and many other players who went straight for the NBA.

If you are a true fan, you need this magazine. Try out one issue and you will want a subscription. I recommend Punks very highly.

I am really starting to get interested in freelance writing. I have always liked writing and figured that I might as well try to get paid a few bucks to do it.  View profile
