Punxsutawney Phil Could Have Predicted Super Bowl XLIII

Shadow Predicts the US Remains Barack Obama Cool, at Least for Six More Weeks

It's February 2, another moment in Groundhog history where Punxsutawney Phil steps out of his boundaries for the American public to witness whether winter will or will not last for the next six weeks. This prediction comes from Punxsutawney Phil's shadow cast.

Though Super Bowl XLIII held much in action the night before with lovely vocals delivered by Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson's explosive performance and Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band during halftime, Punxsutawney Phil may have stayed up late to watch the commercials in hopes he would catch the Super Bowl XLIII million dollar Dorito's commercial winners. We feel for ya Phil, the rooster's crow came early for you today.

The morning broke in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania after dawn with Punxsutawney Phil yawning at 13,000 black-and-gold dressed towel twirling witnesses waiting to see Phil's shadow prediction. If Punxsutawney Phil could speak, what would he say? Perhaps "Thank you, thank you for coming" or "Thank you for coming...good night." Not the perfect way to wake up for a little furry guy, however Phil delivers like the Pittsburgh Steelers did the night before. The Pittsburgh Steelers won over the Arizona Cardinals by a four-point score.

Gobbler's Knob is a small mound, or hill, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania located 65 miles from northeast Pittsburgh. The morning was brisk as the results are in once Punxsutawney Phil shakes and bakes to a call the shots according to his shadow. Perhaps Phil could have predicted Super Bowl XLIII by his shadow due to the fact that Cardinals would have to wait six weeks to blossom in spring victory.

As for Punxsutawney Phil's shadow performance, even Simon Cowell would give him a high score. Once Phil's shadow had been seen, the crystal balls might as well have been thrown into a vending machine by gypsies. For America, it's all good since the US can remain as cool as Barack Obama, at least for the next six weeks. For Phil, the high altitude may cause a Groundhog headache as Ben Hughes holds Phil above his head comparing to a football pass formation. The Steeler fans in the "stands" just may have waited to go long for that pass, though Phil probably thought "I'm Phil, do they know who they are messing with?"

So what's Punxsutawney Phil going to do after his shadow is seen? Most likely after today's Groundhog celebrations, a viewing of Bill Murray's Groundhog Day, and a toast to the Steeler's win, Phil will be tucked into his warm corner of life to sleep in hopes he doesn't wake up until six weeks later.

Each state usually has their own Punxsutawney Phil, as Raleigh, North Carolina has Sir Walter for theirs. Sir Walter can sleep in since he usually comes out for shadow time at high noon on February 2nd each year.
