I have two Chihuahuas but I still shop around at different pet stores. Nowadays, the pet business is a billion dollar plus industry and there is so much in the way of accessories available that I love to look at these Pet boutiques. Puppies Plus in the Shoppes at Parkland in Parkland, Florida happens to be in my daughter's neighborhood and is located right next to the Starbuck's we frequent. We've watched this shop grow. The owners have been in the business for 19 years and run a very clean store. The cages and litter are always clean, the floors are clean and there is no dog smell. You can see the wall of pictures from happy customers behind the check out counter.

When you walk in on your left are the puppy cribs with 2 puppies per crib. In the center area are glass enclosures where the very young puppies are displayed. These are nicely designed cages that protect the smaller puppies. On the right is a bank of wonderful items to purchase for your pet. The cats are up front in a cage with climbing areas built into them. Todays I noticed a lot of empty cribs. I assume these pups were sold. In the center I discovered a precious little brown and white Chihuahua. There are signs up asking you not to handle the pups so I just watched her.The n handling rule is a smart idea, since many people just come in to play with the babies not intending to buy them. All that handling can be stressful for very young animals. The owner even mentioned this to a customer today . The customer was very displeased with the rule and left. You have to keep the safety and health of the pups first so I respect the owner's decision. There is also hand cleaning solution available and a sign asking you to clean your hands before and between handling the pups .

Puppies Plus had a number of Yorkies and Doxies today as well as Chihuahuas and if you go online you can see what dogs are available their sex, age and cost. One Chihuaua was only $599. I imagine because it was 5 months old. Puppies Plus will custom order larger breeds of dog at your request. They also sell mixed breed dogs, or designer dogs as they are now called. They sell Cockapoos, Shihpoos or Chiweenies. These are dogs that people used to call mutts but someone clever has marketed these mixed breeds very well.

Cleanliness, lack of smell and healthy looking pups are important factors in a pet store. This particular store also offers a very good policy when you purchase one of their pupppies. You are offered your first veterinarian visit free and if you have other dogs at home and they become ill their care is covered for two weeks. They will be treated at no cost to you. If the dog you purchase is lost ,stolen or dies they will give you $100 towards the purchase of another puppy. They do request that you use Clint Moore Animal Hospital and the veterinarians there for your visits while under their coverage policy.

Puppies Plus recently opened a gorgeous apparel boutique along with their grooming . This area has so many beautiful accessories for your dog or cat. From greeting cards that are dog and cat oriented to strollers for walking your dog or cat in safety. They carry beautiful leashes and collars, carriers, beds, crates, dishes, treats and bling. You can get your pets name spelled out in diamonds letter by letter to put on it's collar. Do you have a team you're fond of ? Get your pet a team shirt. Maybe you have a diva dog. If you do , they have gorgeous evening dresses in case your dog has a better social life than you do. They carry designer duds by names like Juicy and and Ed Hady.

Puppies Plus is open seven days a week Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday they open 10: 00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Stop in and oohh and ahhh at the cute pups and kittens or do a little shopping for your furry friend.

I have had a marvelous experience with the owners at Puppies Plus , Due to a sudden Illness I was hospitalized The owners worked with me and made sure my new female puppies had gained the status of well and healthy before she was released , in addition Denise worked with me on a payment plan that was comfortable enough for me , and was accommodating at every turn , I have had my Faith restored regarding purchasing a Pup from a retail out let , a great experience , and Highly recommend this outlet to all .

The dogs here are well kept but I still wonder where the dogs that dont sell go and where do all these puppies come from.when I ask I don't get much of a answer

Looks like they really take care of their puppies there. It's nice to hear about a responsible pet store!

I don't have any pets yet, they are soo much like children and one has to really be ready for them, but I am soooo looking forward to having them one day, children too!! But this article was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. Thanks!!!

How can people custom order a large dog, sight unseen? That is too bizarre. Pets are so intimately a part of a family.

There's only one store in my town that sells pets; the others just sell supplies (and maybe fish...). I love pet supply stores/boutiques, because my dogs are my babies, but it breaks my heart to see puppies (or kittens) in cages or crates, and have to wonder if they came from a puppy mill. My Bichons are rescues; my Akita came from the owner of both her parents, who are essentially ranch dogs and not breeding stock. I love reading about stores with great pet "stuff" but tend to rant about "puppies for sale" -- sorry, it's my own private soapbox and I try to keep it to myself! Still a great article -- and it's not your fault they sell puppies! At least it sounds like they take proper care of the animals there.

That should read Dobe rescue, typo. I would love to see some regulation on where these dogs come from and what happens to the dogs that don't sell.
