Puppy Messes? Try Bissell's Carpet Cleaner

Bissell's SpotBot, a Self-contained Easy to Use Machine to Clean Puppy Pee and Other Messes

Lynda Lube
We have two dogs, an old one and a puppy. When they pee on the carpet, I take out Bissell's SpotBot. It is easy to use, light weight and all the parts are together, making it easy to carry and store. It can be used as a Hands free unit on various types of stains. Fill the container with your favorite carpet shampoo, push a button, go do something else and this high tech machine uses rotating brushes and built-in vacuum suction nozzles that remove the stain, whether it be a set-in juice stain or a recent puppy puddle.

You choose which cycle you want, the surface stain option is approximately 3 minutes long. This cycle tackles recent stains, like the times you catch your new puppy squatting on the carpet. The set-in stain button is approximately 6 minutes long, for those stains that have penetrated the carpet, for those many incidents where you did not catch the puppy in the act. There is also a manual option, that allows you to remove the flexible hose and an attached brush. One can clean upholstery, car interiors, stairs or anywhere you would like to control the amount of shampoo cleaner. When cleaning in the manual mode simply push the spray trigger to spray water and formula unto the area to be cleaned. I prefer this cycle, because I use less shampoo, which can be expense. I also control the amount of time needed to suck up the solution.

The other options are easier because the machine does the elbow work, but it does use more carpet shampoo. The collection tank is on the left side and the solution tank is located on the right of the unit when you are facing the machine. One can see the dirt in the collection tank. The tank is easy to clean. Just hold it under the tap and run water through it. The automatic smart system control panel is in the center, with large silver buttons giving one the various options, manual, surface or set-in stains. Little Green Formula or Bissell's Pet Odor & Stain Removal Formula is recommended. Oxy Gen2, an oxygen booster is recommended to remove stains like red wine, coffee, cola and fruit juice. I recommend testing an inconspicuous spot, in case the cleaner lightens one's carpet. I have spots on my beige carpet that are lighter than the surrounding carpet.

My memory is not as good as it was in the past. So, I appreciate the on-going beeping sound that alerts you that the hands free cycle is complete. Like most mothers, I multi-task and forget what I have been working on. The Bissell SpotBot will continue to beep until you press the stop button. Some people find this annoying, but I do not. I get easily distracted with other tasks and appreciate the on-going beep. Besides, someone in the family will find it annoying and get up from the sofa to turn it off. I good way to motivate teens or spouses who are mesmerized with a television program.

I purchased my machine at Walmart for 129.99 about 6 months ago. Best price I could find online as of today was at www.Dmartstores.com, a premier online department store selling everything from home electronics to children's special needs equipment. It is selling for $114.88. NOTE: There is a black rubber seal on the dirt collection tank that sometimes comes off when you rinse out the tank. It slips back on with no problem.

The unit is easy enough for kids, probably 9 years and up to manage. Children love to lay down on the carpet and watch the hypnotic, red rotating brushes.
