Puppy Training : How to Guide

Johnny Moon
The earlier you start training the better. The old saying you can't teach old dogs new tricks while not 100% true does have a lot of truth to it. You want to start training your puppy early so that he will be well behaved from the start and easier to train in the future as well!

It is known now that you should start training your puppy as soon as you welcome him into your family. There used to be some false information floating around that it was actually a better idea to wait until your dog is one year or older to start training him but this is not the case.

Puppies will pick up bad habits if you don't train them with good habits. Puppies are just like human babies except that the puppy goes from birth to adulthood much faster than a human baby of course which is why you should start training early with a puppy. You wouldn't wait until your human baby is 18 years old to start training them. That's what it would be like to wait until your puppy is one years old to train them!

The first training you should do with your puppy is house training. It's a good idea to let your puppy go outside a lot when you first get him so that they have the opportunity to go outside where they are supposed to go from the start. This will help condition your puppy to go to the bathroom outside. "Accidents" inside should be followed by a firm "No" from you but you should not shout at your puppy nor should you shake it or hit it. This will cause your puppy to fear you rather than to understand that "accidents" are bad.

A common problem with puppies is when they chew on furniture and shoes. The best way to solve this problem is through constant playing! Puppies get bored easily so they need to be played with a lot! See if you don't play with them then they may start playing with your furniture and shoes instead! This is bad because not only can they mess up your possessions now they will also be learning bad habits for the future. You should also provide your puppy with toys right from the start. Try to play with your puppy outside for a half hour per day.

Be patient with your with puppy. Remember that he is just a baby!
