Purchasing a Fully Functional House

Most homes are built so people can function in them effortlessly and with very little thought. The word simplicity comes to mind as I walk through most homes and observe the layout and design of the house.

If you notice, most bedrooms are usually located on one side of the house, while the family and living rooms are on the opposite side. I'm not saying, that you will never find a home with the living room wall separating the master bedroom or a noisy kitchen behind a bedroom. Because you will.

When You're Shopping for a House, Try to Keep Three Things in Mind.

Is the kitchen centrally located? The kitchen might not be used by most people in the home as much as the bathrooms. But the kitchen does contain one item that seems to be used frequently and that's the refrigerator. The best location for a kitchen is always toward the center of the home.

If you've ever lived in a house where the kitchen is located at the opposite ends of the bedrooms, family room or living room, you know what I'm talking about. This is when you have to think twice, before actually getting off the couch and traveling to the kitchen for a refreshment.

Is the bathroom located in a convenient area of the house? The bathroom doesn't have to be centrally located in a small home, but in a large home, it's a good idea to have one located for convenience.

Sometimes it's good to have a bathroom at the opposite end of the home. The only reason for this, that comes to my mind, is the noises during use and smells that often remain afterwards and in the bathroom.

Is the front door far away from the driveway? This might not be a problem if you park your car in the garage but could be a problem if your guests park their cars in the driveway or on the streets. This could become a problem for older or handicapped people. If you're planning on buying a house and living there forever, give this some serious thought.

These are just the few of the things you should consider when looking for or buying a functional house. Give these items some serious consideration, especially if you're a first time home buyer.
