This new kitty litter is in the form of small pellets, so it's easy for your cat to cover things up. It is pretty absorbent. The bag says "3 X more moisture absorbing power than clay". It is also very low tracking. It doesn't contain dust particles, so your cat isn't taking any litter out of the box. The pellets are rounded, so there aren't any rough surfaces to bother your kitty. That's especially important to the cat who has recently been spayed or declawed ..or both.
Because Yesterday's News is made out of recycled newspapers, it has really good odor control. The bag states "fresh scent", and when I smelled it, I couldn't smell anything. I don't like strong odors and perfumes in things, and I'm sure my cat doesn't either. This is just plain, straight forward cat litter.
In my opinion, most cats would transition to this new litter just fine. If you have a really fussy cat, you might want to transition slowly, by using half of your old litter and half Yesterday's News for a week, or so. Because it's in the form of small pellets and easily pawed, my cat went straight from regular clay litter to Yesterday's News without any problems.
The litter is sold in 13.2 pound bags. The bag states that it is equal in volume to 20 pounds of clay litter. I paid $6.00 for the bag, and found it locally in two different stores. Keep your eyes open for the bright green bag.
Although I have no need for litter for other animals, Yesterday's News is also available for rabbits, ferrets, and other small animals like guinea pigs.
I'm basically a creature of habit, and have always purchased the same litter. My veterinarian recommended Yesterday's News after my kitty had surgery. We like it so much that we're going to continue using it. I really like the fact that it's environmentally friendly, but I'm shocked at the odor control and no tracking. I had no idea a product like this existed.
