Purse Essentials: Make Sure You Are Prepared Before You Head Out

Bob Sagette
Being the overly prepared species that we are, women tend to pack everything in their purses. If your purse is starting to get overwhelming, then it is time to clean out your purse and fill it with the essentials.

First, a hair band and mini comb is a must. Band-Aids and tissues or a handkerchief are necessary. Advil are needed not only for headaches or any other bodily ache, but also for swelling. Take an Advil a half hour before wearing heels to prevent uncomfortable inflammation. Also, if you have an uncomfortably large pimple, the Advil can reduce the size of it.

Next, always have enough change to make at least two pay phones calls. It is also nice to have money for a parking meter in case. Sunglasses are important not only to save your eyes but also to prevent crows feet. UV damage is one of the main causes of wrinkles.

Always carry a pen or other writing utensil, as well as a notebook or something to write on. Depending on how secure you feel, you can consider pepper spray or a small flashlight. Of course, we can't forget the cell phone. I haven't tried those solar charge phone batteries but that might be something to keep in mind for your purse or car.

As for quick beauty things, floss, mints or gum, mascara, and blotting powder always come in handy. Tinted lip balm is great because it eliminates the need for both lip balm and lipstick. Powder eye liner is great because it eliminates the mess and hassle of liquid eyeliner. Some people can get away with just mascara but I prefer to carry an eye lash curler as well. A water mist such as Evian spray is great for refreshing your makeup and spirits on a hot day.

A nail file, oil blotting sheets, hand sanitizer and lotion are also useful to have on hand. Depending on your body type you might choose to carry a mini deodorant or body spray. And depending on your wardrobe you could also decide to carry fashion tape, safety pins, and a small sewing kit.

Hopefully you will find this list helpful in whittling down the items in your purse.
