Pushing Through to Create Content

Richard L. Naran
A lot of people will second-guess themselves and they'll bail out and quit, just because what they try at first doesn't work. They consider it a permanent failure, but all they need is a little attitude change, a mindset change, or what we call a "reframe."

Instead of saying, "This is failure" they can say to themselves, "I produced a result" and "This is only temporary." This change in perspective is going to change the way that they feel and how they mentally process and explain the experience. It turns into a learning opportunity and valuable feedback for a course correction instead of a failure, and that drives continued action and forward movement.

It's all about your results and your interpretation of those results

From Chris Ranes http://www.myfitnesswithchris.com/why-some-people-quit-and-some-people-never-give-up.html

The quote from Chris Ranes a personal trainer applies to more than just physical training. The process of creativity is no different. Much the same as Chris quote creativity has a wide window of application throughout life. Right now many people are online trying to create content of all types on a daily basis. You have to keep up. You have to press to get that recognition. You have to meet the challenge of your peers in the field you've chosen. What happens is people are falling by the wayside because they are so caught up in the process, they lose sight of their creative centers. Here are some tips to help you push through the path to create.

The false starts
I have a working folder on my computer desktop. False starts are one of my greatest assets. If you are looking to create content or anything be a false start packrat. Many will be buried for years in this folder. Then one day it just works. It doesn't necessarily have to be as whole. It doesn't even have to stand alone. What I can never stop telling you is it may not see the light of day in the same format. Even more interesting it can lead you somewhere else altogether. False starts are your little personal bag of tricks.

The done but file
The otherside of false starts is finishes but what am I going to do with it? The answer is store it in a file. Why? Sometimes bits and pieces or even the whole article or video or whatever will work in a new venue. At times you can use by repurposing the material. It may not have been good enough as an article but will work in a podcast. It might also work in a video in part or a whole. At times just breaking down the content into idea concepts will serve as very intelligent blog post. Don't think coming back and rewriting from another perspective is possible either. Repurposing content is the big thing for web 2.0 social media. One formats garbage can be another's gold.

Reframe
That's what Chris Rane calls changing mindset or perspective. Do you what to jumpstart your creativity? Try the room perspective technique. If you stand outside a room doorway to steps back, you view the room a certain way. When you walk into the room and stand just on the otherside of that doorway, it all looks different. Stand in the middle of the room and you see things you never saw before. That is reframing. Anything you work with as content can be reframed. I will even write on the same subject topic at different time of the day. It will come out different every time.

Beg borrow and steal
That's what I did with this piece. I took from Chris Ranes article and complete inserted it into a new context. I reapplied what the man had to say to what I wanted to make it. This is the content creation version of the "pass it along game." You know where someone whispers something in one person's ear and they pass it along. By the time it get to the other side of the room the original words become something unrecognizable. Actually this topic deserves it's own due and I will give it in the near future.

About that wasted time
Sing along with me, "And it really wasn't wasted time." Once you get into the creativity game you find nothing is wasted. I should know the the day I am writing this is day 2 of my week. This is usable content creation number ten. I didn't do it by pulling a rabbit out of my hat. I did it with an assist from my stored files. By looking through all my work as projects to be useful now or later I create a powerful mindset. It not working for me now is no different than one of Chris Rane's clients hitting a wall. Always appreciate the value of what you have accomplished. If for no other reason you did it. You gave an honest effort. Keep those "false starts" and "done but" files full to overflowing. Whenever you find yourself in a dead spot got through there. Your one day's trash will be another's gold.

About reframing your efforts
One more time quoting Chris "It's all about your results and your interpretation of those results" That interpretation can change day to day moment to moment. What it will yield you is a riches in plenty of content. The depth of which you will come back to time and time again. The key is not to give your work the constriction of boundaries. Let it breathe. Let if seeps like liquid drawn into paper towels laid on top gently. Without boundaries who will find yourself going to unexpected place. And that is a good thing to push through your creation of content.
