Excuse me, Mr. Lythgoe, but I think there's been a major blunder on your part. Not that I'm not completely psyched about your National Dance Day, but there already seems to be a National Dance Day in place. Are you trying to change the date or create a whole new Dance Day?

Declaring Saturday, July 31, 2010 National Dance Day ; So You Think You Can Dance's executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe has made a call to the country to get people moving.

"NATIONAL DANCE DAY is a grassroots initiative that encourages the nation, young and old, to move! Individuals, families, organizations and communities from across the nation come together through their creative expression in dance. Any style of dance is welcome and imagination is recommended in order to get the most out of this celebratory day."

Apparently, Nigel hasn't done his homework. National Dance Day is not a new day or event, so to speak. According to the International Dance Council CID, UNESCO, Dance Day is the 29th of April, which is also the father of ballet's Jean Georges Noverre's birthday, and Dance day has been celebrated every year since 1982.

But Saturday, July 31, 2010 is going to be a very moving day indeed if Nigel has anything to say about it. He's been promoting his own National Dance Day (a.k.a. D-Day) for weeks and even tweeting about it. He says that the goal is to "prove that the 'Power of Dance' can MOVE an entire Country!" Nigel wants you to share your D-Day ideas in the SYTYCD forums and stay tuned to the So You Think You Can Dance website for more information to come, but above all, he wants to encourage everyone to DANCE as a means to stay fit and be healthy.

Even the famous duo of choreographers on So You Think You Can Dance, Nappytabs (a.k.a. Napoleon and Tabitha D'umo) have created a special Dizzy Feet Foundation dance routine for the special day. Check it out in the video they created, learn it and share it with everyone you know.

I know I'll be dancin'! Will you?

A national dance day is an interesting concept. I still don't think it would be enough of a motivator for my husband, though.

yes, this sounds like fun. I am grateful my wife has patent leather shoes, but with me, two left feet and all, steel toes shoes would be better. LOL
