Quail Ridge Book Store is Raleigh's favorite independent book store for authors and people interested in authors. For folks who love music and literature and are visiting the city for the first time, this can be an exciting find.

There are many book stores and each has its own niche. Some sell the top ten picks, some old books that are hard to find and some sell the idea of books themselves.

Quail Ridge Books and Music is this third kind of book store. It is a small book business hidden in the Quail Ridge Shopping Center just down from the better recognized Whole Foods Store.

Entering the shop you will find it a little different each time. Depending on what is going on they move things around a little. It is a favorite gathering place for people who write books, people who want to write books and people who like to fully explore books.

Unlike the atmosphere of a gazillion books you find in the book superstores, the number of each book here can be as few as one copy. In exchange for limited numbers the selection of books that you can find is more diverse.

Of course you can get Ophrah or Steven King's latest offering. It is a book store first and foremost.

You will find a selection of music to choose from like most every bookstore now provides.

In the children's portion of the bookstore you can find a wide variety of award winning books, with some that you didn't know had been written. It is this ability to present material from new and unknown authors that can offer an opportunity of discovery.

Among the adult and youth selections you again will find copies of the high demand books which provide bookstores with their livelihood. You will also have the opportunity to find works from authors who have self published who you never heard of.

For those who love to read and discover new flavors of written presentation, independent bookstores like this provide a place of tranquility and of excitement.

But it doesn't stop there. In a way of promoting its values with the community this bookstore provides a place for talks and discussions on topics related to the books.

Many days every month of the year the visitor will be pleased to see individuals and groups providing presentations of books and sometimes skills found in books. Two groups you are certain to find on the schedule (at the third link) are TOFU which stands for Triangle Origami Folders United, a group that works with origami, and People's Right to Write, a group promoting authorship.

If you visit this store soon you will find many items for sale dedicated to Coach Kay Yow. The store has been involved in community events related to her fight with cancer and keeping the fight going for those, like author Elizabeth Edwards, who still have a fight on their hands.

The bookstore can be found at:
