Clubs/Organizations
Quail Run has several extracurricular activities for students to participate in. Some of the most popular are the chorus, the Ecology Club, the Drama Club, and the Cranium Club. Each club focuses on developing a certain skill set through activities. All clubs require students maintain satisfactory academic progress and good behavior.
Parent/Teacher Involvement
The school has an active parent teacher organization that sponsors several fun events throughout the school year. Past events have included a Spring Fling carnival, math night, movie nights, spaghetti dinners and art sales. Parents are very involved at Quail Run. Classrooms have "room moms" who help during class activities and parties.
Accelerated Reader Program
Quail Run participates in the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program which promotes reading beginning at young ages. Students are evaluated and assigned a reading level. They may check out books for their corresponding reading level at the school library. After reading the books, students participate in a short online test covering material from the book. They are assigned points for correct answers which accumulate throughout the year and may be used to earn prizes or participate in parties.
Faculty & Staff
The faculty and staff at Quail Run are top-notch. Dr. Doug Rizer is the current principal, but will be leaving next year to lead another school. Assistant Principal, Dr. Cheryl Thomas, will take over for him next school year. Both administrators have done an excellent job in their current capacity. Both Dr. Riser and Dr. Thomas maintain a high profile in the school by greeting parents in the mornings and afternoon, and by frequently monitoring the halls throughout the day. The teachers and support staff are all friendly and have the kids' interest as their top priority. Rooms are decorated in a kid-friendly fashion, and many of the younger-grade rooms have reading lofts that kids really seem to enjoy. Classes operate on a routine schedule and include a variety of basic educational topics. Students are also introduced to music and art concepts, and they learn basic computer skills during weekly computer lab time. Physical activity is also encouraged as classrooms take a daily break to play outside on a well-maintained play ground with safe playground equipment. Students also attend a physical education class twice a week.
