In the extreme north of Massachusetts, just shy of the New Hampshire border, you'll find a quaint little New England style town called Royalston.

If you are looking for a high tourist attraction, then this is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a simple, laid back community you need to check this out. Nature is prevalent here; streams, waterfalls and plenty of forests are home to several hiking trails.

Homes range anywhere from a simple ranch, or trailer, to affluent contemporaries with mountainous views. Land abounds in Royalston, and if you are looking for acreage, there is plenty to be found. A typical home will average about $200,000 here, for a smaller 3 bedroom single-family house.

It has a population of 29 people per square mile according to statistics, with a population of fewer than 2000 people. The area is approximately 42 square miles, and has just over 72 miles worth of roads!

Although it is very rural, with really no easy access to a highway, plenty of people in Royalston have found that it is the opportune place for a work at home job. If you are a writer, what could be better than the quiet serene that surrounds you?

Royalston is also known for its waterfalls, although there are only three, they have become quite popular with the locals and tourists visiting for a good nature walk. There is Doane's Falls, Spirit Falls and Royalston Falls. For pictures, you can visit here: http://www.royalston.com/

If you do visit the website, you'll see the main page states "This site is not being updated." It doesn't surprise me, as there is not much in Royalston to update. But believe me, I'm not saying that in a negative way.

The people are friendly, and the main section of town called "The Common" consists of a volunteer fed Fire Station and a Church. A few houses dot the street, and then you are out of the center. South Royalston has a little more activity, feature it's own "center," with a small restaurant and some more houses.

If you are looking for a place to worship, there are three churches in town. The First Congregational Church, The Second Congregational Church and Our Lady Queen of Heaven, which is a Roman Catholic Church.

Just a short drive up, and you are in New Hampshire. North Royalston is beautiful, hilly country with views galore. If you're looking to get away from it all, and lead a simpler life, you might want to check into Royalston!
